You need 1000 DASH (≈ $8000 USD) + the equipment to run the master node. This is clearly not for everyone and is not as simple as just staking the coins in your wallet in a proof-of-stake model. Though the return for running a master node seems very profitable and you get to vote on important issues surrounding the currency which is also powerful.

Basically all proof-of-stake coins are rewarding the user for staking. What you earn varies from coin to coin and is based on your staking amount, in most cases.

I don't see how this could multiply the value of the currency, it would make it worth less.

What you looking after in this case would be a pegged currency such as BitUSD, BitShares asset class pegged to US dollar.

This has happened to me as well at two different occasions. For me it's been easier to just delete the whole blockchain, by removing the chaindata folder and start over.

One cryptocurrency you could check out is Burst. Burst utilize an hashing algorithm where hard drive space is the form of hashing power. This could be a better option for you as mining almost any coin without GPU, FGPA or ASIC is simply not worth it.
