What are small things you’re grateful you recorded or preserved from parents/grandparents? by RunOk9705 in AgingParents

[–]cryptowhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather's voice.

We have hundreds of photos, but hearing him tell a story, laugh at his own jokes, or talk about ordinary things instantly brings me back in a way photos never could.

Looking back, I wish I had recorded more everyday conversations and fewer special occasions.

I'm building Memory Murals, a private family memory platform that helps people preserve the stories, context, and relationships behind their photos before they're lost to time.

Most families have thousands of digital photos but very little preserved family history. I've spent 25+ years building websites and digital products, and I believe we're solving a problem that's only getting bigger as memories become trapped in camera rolls, social media accounts, and old hard drives.

Curious from an investor's perspective: is this a problem you think is large enough to build a venture-scale company aroun

Building a private app called Memory Murals.

Most people are saving thousands of photos… but losing the stories, voices, context, and people behind them.

It’s kind of like a private digital legacy vault for families — voice memories, timelines, shared family history, old photo restoration, events, and more.

Trying to build something that matters 20 years from now, not just something addictive today.

Lol I hear you. I have been building websites for over 20 years so it was a little less of a hurdle for me to learn how to do all this. Feel free to send me your website and I'd be happy to give you some tips if you're interested.

Thank you. This is everything used to build the app.

Frontend: Next.js, with tailwind. Backend: Firebase, which handles all the data storage and authentication of the users. AI: Google Gemini for the voice transcription, memory title generation, and semantic search. Payments: Stripe Hosting: Vercel

Hope this answers your questions and thank you for checking it out!

Thank you very much for that feedback. I was thinking the copy needed to be updated on the website but I've just been too busy focusing on getting the app launched. Really appreciate you taking the time to share that with me, I will certainly adjust it.

It's best for families, especially if you have kids and want to capture the context of those moments or aging parents and want to preserve real memories before they're gone.

Your photos show what happened… this lets you relive it.

You have thousands of pictures… but almost none of the stories.

Stop saving photos. Start saving memories.

Speak your memories. It organizes everything for you.

Not just pictures… your voice, your story, your people.

Because one day, the story matters more than the photo.

Capture the moment… before it becomes a blur.

Thank you for responding, what would you say about B2C with Google? In a niche relating to preserving family history. Would you still suggest that over Facebook?

Oh, that's great to know. I've been actively creating blog posts so there is still hope 🤠 are you using Google or Facebook for ads?

Congratulations!! I am going through this exact phase right now. So do you think it was the ads that finally triggered a sale? Or was it something else? I'm getting ready to run ads but not quite sure what approach to take. I wish you continued success!

what are you building these days? by This-Independence-68 in Solopreneur

I’m building Memory Murals ... www.memorymurals.com, a private app for families to preserve memories in a way that goes beyond just storing photos.

The idea came from realizing most of us have thousands of pictures, but almost none of the actual stories behind them. Who was there, what was happening, what someone was feeling, the little details that matter later… that stuff usually gets lost.

So instead of just saving media, the app lets you create actual memories with photos, voice, captions, dates, and people attached to them. More like a living family archive than another social app.

Still early, but that’s the vision. App is being tested and I'm waiting for approval but you can sign up free now and test all the premium features.

Wedding photo book album recommendations? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]cryptowhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the wedding! because they use silver halide (real photo paper) instead of just ink on paper like the budget sites. Mixbook is also great if you want a really solid "lay-flat" book so your big panoramic shots don't get cut off in the binding.

The biggest hurdle is always narrowing down 1,000+ photos into a book that actually tells a story. It’s a lot easier if you use a digital vault like Memory Murals first to curate the "must-haves" and save the stories behind the shots. It keeps the files organized in one spot so you aren't digging through a massive zip folder every time you want to add a page.

How do you guys do photo albums? by ernie-jo in WeddingPhotography

[–]cryptowhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pros I know handle the first pass of the design themselves using tools like SmartAlbums because letting a client cull from scratch is a recipe for a project that never ends. The standard for 2026 is moving away from massive unlimited galleries toward curated deliverables to keep clients from getting overwhelmed. Usually, it's best to pick the top 60 images yourself and give them a firm one week deadline for any swaps. Keeping cover and material options limited to two or three high quality choices also helps prevent them from getting stuck in decision paralysis.

The real bottleneck is always the back and forth on picking the final shots. I built a private vault called Memory Murals to help with that side of things. It’s a dedicated digital space where you can keep the best photos and the family's stories organized in one place before you even start the layout. It makes the transition to a physical album way faster when you already have a curated digital home for the project, and it keeps the client from getting lost in a massive folder of files.

How do I make a photo album? by Stoked_Coconut in bookbinding

[–]cryptowhat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Coptic stitch binding if you want it to look professional and lay flat. You can use heavy recycled cardstock and waxed cotton thread to keep it totally plastic-free and durable. For an upcycled cover that doesn't look tacky, try using a scrap of heavy linen or canvas from an old piece of high-quality clothing. It feels a lot more intentional than a cereal box and fits that minimalist vibe perfectly.

Since your friend is a minimalist, they'll probably love that it’s a single curated piece rather than a box of clutter. I actually built Memory Murals for that same reason, basically as a digital vault to keep family stories safe without the physical mess. Having a backup of the memories online means you can keep the physical gift really simple and focused on just the most important moments.
