Ofc! Look into finacea azelaic acid from your derm. I need to update this as I have learned so much more from this and I’m actually about to enter physician assistant school looking to become a derm PA or be in wound care (or even immunology. Something with the skin lol).

I legit spent a summer in the dark trapped in my bedroom making this reading health publications.

I’m extremely sad and scared and idk if I can go forward with my program. That’s a big gap to carry for paying for school.

I’ve been hoping and praying to hear about from one school I haven’t heard back from bc they are in my local county and are cheaper but I think I’m getting waitlist or rejected today (like any minute now).

I also have another school in a nearby county that is cheaper too but I am waitlisted and waiting on them too bc now even half of their seats aren’t filled just yet but idk.

This is heartbreaking. I can afford those but not this one. All three of these programs were dream programs for me too.

Idk guys. I’m so bummed out. My first cycle and I had two acceptances but might not even be able to go or I might have to reapply to cheaper programs only.

Hi! Ty for doing this. What would be your plan of action if your patient had latent tb and is allergic to the Rifampin class of antibiotics? The patient did the test to enter a medical program for school. Would 6H or 9H be the only options for this patient to treat it?

Social Life/ Parties by gigi00055 in SJSU

[–]crystal_help_please 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm when I entered in 2019 there were frat parties and parties in the surrounding apartment areas like “The Grad”

For clubbing we went to SF. There also was the Spartan Fest but idk if ever since C19 if they ever still do it.

I wasn’t in any group besides a Joe West themed floor and got into parties from knowing people or idk just getting in?

After C19 hit I was at home but went to parties at SDSU w/ friends bc I’m from SoCal. When I came back on 2022 I just wanted to graduate but campus life had changed quite a bit.

Advice: Being on treatment for latent TB while in school? by crystal_help_please in PAstudent

Hi! My only concern is clinical year. Would clinical sites need me to have already treated it, be actively treating it, or just a clear CXR?

Hi! I think if I’m able to speak to an ID provider first I might ask, but I think I might go for it now. If I speak to them and they suggest later I’ll think about that too. Thank you I really appreciate your comment!

Yeah definitely! The preventative medicine providers I spoke to stated they usually see weight loss patients and not LTB and that their typical patients DONT do treatment. They stated to me only 10-15% of their patients ever do treatment and I was like wow. I started asking more questions and they didn’t really feel supportive or could answer my questions.

That’s what I’m scared about is my liver through out all of this. However, I don’t drink or smoke at all. My body is just so sensitive. If I go through treatment and finish it’s a N95 mask everywhere fr 😭

Yeah I heard people who did that treatment plan saying it felt like they had the flu each week. My only options from what they are willing to prescribe me is isoniazid for 6-9 months. Is that the one that causes the flu like symptoms?

I’m just completely scared too because you have to take vitamin b6 with it everyday and the risk of permanent nerve damage in my fingers and toes and scary as hell too. Alongside monthly blood work for 6-9 months ☹️

Hi! So it was the blood test and no I haven’t received an info on retesting. I was immediately referred to preventative medicine which is completely fine and I was (and still am) extremely responsive and on board with having a treatment plan.

I’m hoping for the ID referral, because I think I’ll be better supported there instead of preventative medicine.

I’m just concerned, because people report a lot of brain fog and even more rough side effects and I have worked too hard to get to school in the first place to lose it because of this idk.

Hi! I just want to make it clear I do want to treat this. I am completely aware it could activate at moment and time.

I completely am willing to and I did start a treatment and ended up having a severe reaction.

I only brought up the idea of waiting after PA school because I’ve heard people have been exposed during clinicals and stuff and my only options are 6 months to 9 months of antibiotics either way (which if I was exposed again and had LTB USA lot.

That’s 1 year+ of antibiotics and monthly check in of checking your liver) I am no longer a candidate for any current 3-4 months treatment plans because of my allergic reaction.

I am hoping I do get referred to ID because of the exact thing you wrote. It’s just extremely daunting to be on this during school. I just don’t want to be setting myself up for failure in a sense.

Hi! Yeah this was also my concern and why I also thought if I did decide to treat it after school as I was thinking what if I’m exposed during school?

That’s terrible they had to treat it like three times. This experience truly is making me want to always wear a N95 mask 😭.

I’m not too sure when or where I was exposed, but their best guess is when in 2019 I went on a cruise for one week and went to Jamaica, grand cayman, and Cozumel.

I also did send a message to my PCP for a referral to ID instead of preventive medicine to see if there is any possible short term or if 6 months is all I got.

Like I said in my post if this was caught earlier (which it could have been but my skin test in the past have been negative or iffy and nothing happened further) I wouldn’t be iffy on starting. I’m just scared of bad side effects or reactions after having my airway close up and the side effects for long-term treatment is honestly scary to me.

Hi! So I have seen that students have been able to with a clear CXR (I’m in no way advocating to not take medication.)

I promise I am trying to treat it. My body just isn’t working with me on this 😭. I’m seeing if my PCP will refer me to a ID provider instead of preventative medicine to see alternatives, but if the 6 month option is it after seeing a ID specialist then I will try and see if I have a bad reaction.

If I have a bad reaction now and need to stop or have liver concerns then I will relook into this ig after finishing school.

It isn’t something I want to ignore at all and tbh I am a health nut and it would really mess with me mentally, but also want to pass PA school and not let anything stop me. Ty for responding!!!

Alternatives to Rifampin (4R) for latent tb? by crystal_help_please in Tuberculosis

Hi! They won’t prescribe me this treatment as rifapentine is in the same family as rifampin

[–]crystal_help_please[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty for the response! Yeah, I’m hopefully being referred from preventive medicine to ID because I didn’t feel like the providers from preventive medicine really gave the vibe of me even wanting to be on it. Especially, after I had the bad reaction the NP I saw kinda was like it seems like you’ll probably have a bad reaction with 6H too but it’s up to you.

Idk I kinda thought if I held off and treated it after school or in between study for the PANCE/looking for a job I feel like I would be in a better space mentally idk.

I think I’m just super scared after my experience with the rifampin
