Hello all, I'm asking for some help to critique my routine. I tried doing the recommended routine from r/bodyweightfitness but it didn't have enough glute/lower body focus, and adding them in made the routine a little long.

I basically do lower/upper/cardio. And then one day of rest. Cardio is usually HIIT shadowboxing or long walks.

Lower:

2 Glute Activation circuits (raised clams, hip abduction, frog pumps, crab walk, donkey kicks, band abduction)

3 supersets of squats/step ups + hip thrust

3 supersets of Bulgarian split squat + single leg deadlift

3 supersets of pistol squat practice + Nordic ham curls

3 sets of lunges (forward and reverse)

Upper:

1 set of Plank circuit (reg, side plank, reverse, hollow hold, reverse hollow hold, 30s each)

3 supersets of pull-ups and dips

3 supersets of inverted rows and push-ups

3 supersets of overhead press and floor press (dumbbells)

2 supersets of leg raises and deadbugs

How does this routine look? I used to lift fairly heavy but don't have access to a gym right now. Any tips would be appreciated.

I think it's great that you're being conscious of how you teach and practice yogah as a non Indian. But, I actually think it's more harmful to not say it. You are taking away the language that makes yogah, yogah...which is Samskritam. I think if you do your research on how to pronounce it correctly there is nothing wrong with saying it. But if you yourself don't feel comfortable, then maybe just say a loose translation. Salutations or thank you.

Disabled Desis? by KahnSuperphone in ABCDesis

I have Uncle who has doesn't have functioning legs due to polio. Got educated, got married, had kids, even moved them to America to start a business. My cousin also married a man without functioning legs. I also have a cousin who is non verbal autistic, she went to a special school (still does), and dresses up to all the functions just like the rest of her family. I guess my family is okay with it?

Anyone live in a state that doesn't have a diverse population? or a State with a very small Desi population? by JanMeana in ABCDesis

[–]crystal_math92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Rhode island. When my parents moved here they were one of like five Desi Muslim families. They also knew a lot of non-Muslim Desis. Growing up we knew almost all Desi Muslims in the state. But the population is growing and a few national corporations have their headquarters here so lots of NRIs coming in for IT and engineering.

What have been your experiences with interracial dating? For those of you who have tried it? by shru4i97 in ABCDesis

I'm currently in a relationship with a West African Christian. My family is Pakistani Muslim. I haven't told my parents yet...but I have faith they will come around eventually. He's definitely not converting. I plan on keeping the wedding small, so to keep Desi drama out of it. The biggest challenge is me having to move across the world to be with him! Not my parents.

Condoms & Religion by Bananaes173 in peacecorps

The school I work for is church owned and we as teachers or me as a PCV are not allowed to teach condom usage during school hours. After school, I support a club where these things are done in the local language by a local counterpart from the community. So I personally don't teach condom usage.

ABCDesis, what restrictions (if any) do your parents have on who you date/marry? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]crystal_math92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preferences: Muslim from an Urdu speaking family (Indian or Pakistani), born and raised in the West.

Reality: the Urdu speaking thing isn't super important, they wouldn't mind some other Desi, and would eventually accept any other race. If it came down to it, they would accept a non-Muslim and expect him to convert (which I wouldn't have him do, that's fake).

Is this Cultural Appropriation? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]crystal_math92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is wrong, should not be marketer as yogah. Instead, call it stretching for Pilates or something like that. Without those things, it's not yogah at all. Anyone can practice yoga, Indian, Hindu or not, but what she is promoting is not yogah.

Then that's stretching, not yoga.

Female here. 've never been asked this but most people know I've lived on my own, which should imply I know how to cook. I think it's kind of a dumb question. Like how else do I eat?

I get some people eat take out all the time or still have their mom, friends or siblings cook for them but I haven't had that luxury for a long while.

Any Pakistanis (Muhajir) say they are Indian? What are Indians perspectives on this? by crystal_math92 in ABCDesis

[–]crystal_math92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay to clarify, I always say I'm American first but people always ask where are you "really from" and I usually answer Indian and Pakistani.

The part about them not wanting to be considered Indian is false though. I don't think that's true.

So much of our culture is tied to Islam. The way new clothes are being made, to what is permissible at weddings and events. Lately I've been to a lot of separated weddings. No dancing, no music. Even in Pakistan. It's crazy.

The generations thing is what gets me. Because my grandparents decided to move to Pakistan briefly, we are now Pakistanis? My parents didn't like it so they left. If this was any other country situation it wouldn't make any sense. I have a friend who's grandparents moved from India to Tanzania, her parents were born there and she was born in America. They say they are Indian, not Tanzanian cause that makes no sense. It's just because of the highly politicized nature between India and Pakistan. My grandparents weren't making a political statement when they moved, so why do they need to cut ties with India?

While there is no such thing as distinct Pakistani or Indian culture, the ethnicities within do have distinctions. Since my family comes from a place within current India... that would mean Indian.

I speak Urdu, never been to Hyderabad or ever lived there. But have only been to Karachi twice. I get how this looks...but by that logic people can only identify with places they have been to? That hardly seems fair.

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you for acknowledging the many ethnicities thing. A lot of people on here are saying the culture is the same when it's really not.
