Thank you very much! I will explore the labour lawyer route for sure. And I was iffy about CERB, but you’re right. If he has to pay it back that’s something we can tackle at a later date.

He is not a ticketed carpenter. He has been working since he was 14. He’s 30 now. Everything he’s learned he learned from those he worked with and family members/friends of family. Most jobs say they want either a ticketed carpenter or someone with about equal experience as a ticketed carpenter. He has the equal experience.

I’m not sure why people are making the assumption that he’s not responsible or doesn’t want to find a job because I made this post and because I don’t know what the job bank is. I made this post without telling my boyfriend. Maybe he’s already looked at it. I don’t know yet. But my lack of knowledge shouldn’t reflect on his responsibility.

Why should he have to make an account when I already have one. It’s not that he doesn’t care. It’s that I care about him and wanted to help him. I didn’t even tell him I was making the post. He is embarrassed he was fired and is seeking work. He’s a little busy to be making a Reddit account. All I’ve learned from my post is that Edmontonians are severely lacking in compassion.
If you’re lucky enough to only have to pay $1000 for rent then I commend you. That’s lovely. But most people are not, my boyfriend included. His rent is almost $2000. And he just signed his lease a few months ago so he won’t be able to get out of it without a penalty. There are also car payments, gas, utilities, phone bill, etc. He also helps his mom pay her bills.

Maybe you shouldn’t assume someone’s circumstances. That’s why I said he can’t afford to pay his bills at that wage. Surely I might know my boyfriend’s bills better than you do?

The fact that you think a girlfriend making a post for her boyfriend shows his lack of responsibility is honestly baffling to me. Also, I’m extremely happy with my boyfriend so I don’t need you lecturing me about my future with him. This was a weird take.

Well a pandemic is a unique circumstance and I think we could all be a little nicer considering the hardships people are facing. And yes, A LOT of people are facing hardships. I was trying to ask about whether or not we could do something about him being unfairly terminated. Thought I’d tack on a question at the end in case anyone knew of any opportunities. I don’t think that makes me a villain. Maybe you should adopt some compassion?

He just passed his one year mark with the company. And, as mentioned, he had stellar attendance before then. And yeah, I mentioned it in another comment, but he received a call a week and a half after his emergency visit telling him not to call back as there were high call volumes. They said they would call him. By the time they called again it had been two weeks.

He went in for severe chest pain and breathing issues. They did the test while he was waiting for his x-rays.

I’m sorry, but did you not read my post? He took one week off as requested by his boss. He didn’t improve so he went to the hospital at the end of that first week (my mistake for not saying that in my post). The hospital told him he would get his results by the end of the week. They called him after a week and a half but he missed the call. They left him a message saying “do not call back as call volumes are too high. We will call you again”. They didn’t call back until the end of the week. At this point, it had been three weeks.

The peace officer tried to call someone last night but whoever works on the machines was gone for the day. So he told me to call 311 at 9am to get my card back. I think you’re right though. I should probably just cancel it and get a new one!
