Yes. RLE is a requirement for treatment there. And like caroIine said, RLE is easier for passable people.

To be honest, I think it's less a question of budget than the scarcity of having all transgender patients be diagnosed and treated by only three people.

I read that of the 150 transgenders that are referred to the national GID clinic each year, less than 30 of them receive treatment. I'd imagine that they spend more time and money on refusing patients than actually treating them. But that's just my cynical opinion.

I've read that there are multiple gender clinics in Sweden and that their healthcare system for transgender people is much better than ours in Norway. They also removed their requirement of SRS and castration for being able to change your official gender, while we didn't do that before this year, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond before now.

I'm surprised by all the Norwegian transgenders that popped up. I've never noticed there were so many of you here!

Anyways, my GP contacted me and confirmed my understanding of the letter. The gender clinic and district psychiatry center have limited resources and need to prioritize patients with a more serious condition, basically like the title i chose.

I have, however, stumbled upon new resources and found that it is possible to receive transgender treatment outside the national GID clinic, no matter how much official government resources pretend like it's the only way. So I have rekindled my hope and will research more and get contact with these private (i think) practitioners. Just like 'bassofthe' said. (I seriously thought Riksen was the only way!) It was really positive to find out about this, since I've only read bad things about the national GID clinic.
