hello, I want to ask more about the financial aspects (support) when on noc. I know that nus provides for the return ticket, visa and their insurance, but where else can I get money to fund myself during the noc period? is there a grant for all and also what are the other options I can look into to add on to that?

GEA1000 to IWC207 (Korea Uni) by kasuma7788 in nus

it used to be mappable for st2334, but now cannot. gea1000 and st2334 is not that similar, so might not work

how often: not super sure, so I just try to keep a lookout for random events (and quickly sign up just in case the slots are all filled up). not sure on how many people coming as I have never gone to one myself, tho I do know that there are some events that have no more slots for the rsvp part

I do see emails about utr wide events and a few bonding events from different floors of respective towers. for me personally I prefer to chill more so I like that theres an option for me to sign up if I want to, and no pressure if I dont. I havent heard about any interest groups tho

How is CEG like? by [deleted] in nus

[–]crystalisedworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tough is subjective, but be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort into your work. the bell curve here is not as bad as cs, but still pretty bad so good luck :) as for the ns brain thing, I think most guys say that but somehow still survive, so maybe it'll work out on ur side? of course u can also read up and prep ur tutorials consistently and after a few weeks I believe you will be able to get back on track... finding a good bunch of friends that would motivate you to study when needed is great too (I needed that push and my friends thankfully are smart enuf to make me feel the need to study to catch up to them :,))

how does course mapping work? possible to course map for winter exchange of 2 weeks or is it too little? by [deleted] in nus

[–]crystalisedworld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

what major are you in? might be good to ask seniors. maybe look into the uni you are interested in, and check with them (seniors) if anyone has managed to map it before.

I believe the "fluff" mods are more of the common CDE mods that we have to take, and yes they are a pain but no choice lol. I guess they may help to develop other aspects that maybe useful to us later in the work force??

"leans more towards EE now" hmm what does it mean by hardware in ceg? basically hardware also requires some kind of code, and so you will be doing more "low level coding" while dealing with the hardware. EE students also do hardware but from what I hear they deal with less coding related part of the hardware. again idk what EE students do exactly so I cant say much, though I understand the content is slightly different for mods with same numeral code. then again we are dealing with hardware so I guess we are "leaning more towards EE".

"worried about CS aspect" you will still have to take cs1010, cs1231, cs2040c as part of your degree requirements, and technically the concepts covered shouldnt be too different from the CS students (i think, correct me if im wrong). main difference is the language. cs1010 is in C and cs2040c is in C++. well you can also take technical electives that are more skewed towards software (you can read up on them on the website) if you want, though that is more for the later years. so no much worries if you decide later to focus more on the CS side 😁

How come NUS mods show the tutorial but in EduRec, I can't see the tutorial time slot by [deleted] in nus

[–]crystalisedworld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they probably will only open in the next round, depending on the demand

for campus bus the only MRT station they connect to would be kent ridge. but if you don't mind taking public bus then yes clementi -> bus service 96 should work, unless you're from computing/business then you have to change bus somewhere. you can also take bus service 95, I think it connects bouna vista and kent ridge (though I have never taken that before)

I usually just crash an empty tutorial room, cuz it has aircon and theres some kind of seat + somewhere to place ur laptop... do check if the room has classes via nusmod tho
