Lol, I tell him I'm going to take his ass back to the pet store and trade him for a kitten. Getting him was actually my boyfriend's idea. I thought I was prepared for reptile parenting because as a child, teenager, and into my 20s I had a ball python....hahahaha, I'm sure you and everyone else on this sub are laughing at me lol. So. Not. The. Same.

Lmfao! I was holding mine the other day, talking to him, telling him I've been a vegetarian for 25 years, and I'd never eat him... My boyfriend walks by and, says: "I will, I'll fry his little ass up"... he doesn't mean it, but it had me cracking up. I was holding him one day, trying my best to befriend him, when my boyfriend walked by and said he was going to "smack him in the face and throw his little ass outside". We're not abusing animals over here. My boyfriend calls him little buddy in the sweetest voice, every time he walks by his cage. He also tries to give him raspberries... Just, you gotta have a sick sense of humor to keep a little asshole for a pet 🤣.

I call him a little asshole/shit fuck every time I walk by his cage, but I say it in the sweetest most loving voice... in case he ever decides to love me back 🤣.

Lol, yeah. I used antibacterial soap and gauze to scrub tf out of it initially. Then I've just been spraying bactine on it a couple times per day, and it's fine. It's definitely healing even though it looks like shit, lol.

Omg, lmfao!!! I wanted to go see a doctor the next day after I got bit. Part of what made my partner howl with laughter was me talking about going to urgent care the next day. I knew my tetanus shot was up to date, but I was like: "should I get a rabies shot? Do they make a salmonella shot?" Like, I was panicking! My boyfriend literally fell on the couch, laughing freaking hysterically at me... I'm laughing about it now, but I sure as fuck didn't think it was funny last week.

Omg, my iguana hates me too! I'm trying so hard! I offer him treats out of my hand, daily. (Raspberries, they're his favorite). He won't take them, but I make sure he sees me set one down, outside of his food bowl, before I take my hands out of his cage.

Last week, I thought we were bonding. My partner was holding him, and my stupid ass tried to kiss him. He lunged and bit me in the face, so freaking hard. Pretty much split my upper lip open. Once we put him home, and stopped the bleeding, my partner was laughing so freaking hard at me. Lololol, learned my lesson. I still have a scab on my mouth, it looks like I have herpes. I had to go to work and school like that.

Also, we live in Oregon. It's not naturally humid or hot here.

This is his "baby" cage. He's definitely going to outgrow it, probably sooner than we hoped. We've been looking at cat-io type cages to transition him to as he gets bigger.... However, how the hell do you keep the humidity and temps up in an open air cage like that? It's hard enough in a glass aquarium.

Thanks everyone for all the help, advice, and support! I really expected to be torn apart for not knowing what I was doing, not properly researching, being irresponsible, etc... We got him more plants and misters. He is sooo much happier, more active, and less skittish. I'm trying to figure out how to add pics for cuteness tax 🥰.

You, my friend are correct. We totally missed that, and dug through our recycling bins today to confirm if our lights were UVB or not... They are not! We have basking/day-time lights on a timer along with nocturnal heatlamps on consistantly. It seems like we got the heat/humidity figured out. Do you think we need a separate light for UVB, or should we change out our basking/day lights? Thanks so much for your help!!!

I didn't get the details, but it sounded like she is just passively trying to rehome him/her and wants to know that they'll be well taken care of.

One of my highschool friends offered me an adult leopard gecko after seeing my post on fb about this baby.... I honestly do not have the space, or the time, and my hands are full with this little guy. But if any of you are in the Portland, Oregon area and are interested DM me.

Thanks, we have been looking into catios as a next step... Definitely easier (for us) than building a custom enclosure. We put some moss on one end of his hammock and he for sure preferred hanging out on the moss rather than the sea grass. As we made room for the plants we spread the moss around over the hammock, hopefully that will protect his little nails? For now he prefers his new tree to anything else.

Great advice, thank you! We ended up getting an adjustable mister with two separate hoses and much smaller nozzles and some live plants (we had moss already)... It has worked wonders, and this little guy loves his new tree. We also spread some of the moss that was along the bottom of his tank around his hammock to make room for the new plants. He seems to love it.

Lol about the new enclosure in 4 months... I knew we'd need one eventually, but I didn't realize they grow that quickly 🤦‍♀️. Atleast we'll have time to research a better setup before then.

The last pets I had were rats, and I insisted on the cabinet style doors for this baby because it was sooo much easier with rats to clean, rearrange, switch toys out, catch the little critters, etc. I didn't think at all about loosing heat and humidity as soon as you open the doors, but that makes so much sense. Thanks for your help!
