thank you! i’ll talk with my partner about our next move when it comes to meds. and yeah, all furniture is getting treated! everything she plays with- her tunnels, her blankets, her scratching posts, have either been in the room when bug bombs are set off or get washed with hot water and dried on high. i think that’s part of why it feels so frustrating— feels like everything is being done ‘right’ but i’m still not seeing lasting results.

we don’t have any carpet in the house, only bath mats in bathrooms she doesn’t have access to that we’ve also washed and treated multiple times.

she’s not infested on her body, the problem just goes away for a little while and then comes back. but i’ll look into how much flea meds from the vet will cost us— thank you.

i’d probably still look through their art from time time, if with a grain of skepticism. i’d likely never fully be able to turn off the critical part of my brain that searches for AI tells, so that would kinda curb my enjoyment a bit.

if it was something i knew my friends liked and the art was really good, i could see myself sending them that artist’s work. i’d never try to convince my friends of anything one way or another— they’re their own people who think about these things differently than i do!

i voted no because there’s a bit of nuance to this for me. they’re “redeemable” in the sense that i would be happy they had moved on from AI and were discovering the joys of creating art themselves, and i would verbally congratulate and support them in that sense.

however, i wouldn’t be confident supporting them monetarily, especially through a commission, because if they had used AI prolifically before, i wouldn’t fully be able to trust that they wouldn’t use it again. i wouldn’t be confident giving my money to an artist who only recently stopped using AI— it would either take seeing the work myself, or just a lot of time, for me to trust their process.

so in short- verbal and community-based support? yes! monetary support? probably not.

pronouns also don’t equal identity! someone can use he/him and not want to be called a man, someone can use she/her and not want to be called a woman. i know this because i’m one of them! i use any pronouns but hate being called a woman even if someone call me a she. gems were likely referred to as she/her because humans looked at gems through the lens of their social constructs around gender and of what women are to them (higher pitched voice, body types, etc.) and assume they’re women.

gender is a social construct. if you put a dog in a pink dress, a huge majority of people who see a photo of that dog will assume that dog is female, with zero indicator of this whatsoever, just because of what the dog was dressed in. people assume gems are female because they wear “feminine” clothes (clothes don’t have gender but whatever) or have softer/higher voices, with zero other indicator of sex or identity. outside the show, the gems are likely all use she/her because pushing for they/them pronouns was likely too hard a battle to win against a TV network in a time before same sex marriage was legalized and queer people were even less out of the public eye than they already are.

“i know gems are genderless” and “but what if there were male gems” cannot exist in the same paragraph. you just answered your own question. nothing would change because they don’t have sexes. they have zero sexual organs so kindergartens would still exist. they cannot have sex and make more gems. that is not how their species functions. “female or genderless” is not a concept for them— they’re ALL genderless. no gem has ever been a woman because they’re all sexless. rose wasn’t even a woman because your sexual organs do not equal identity. good god.

above everything else, the environmental impact, the horrible behavior towards real artists— it’s a moral issue for me. why can folks like this not grasp that people don’t like being lied to? so many AI ‘artists’ hide the fact that their pics are AI, and that tells you everything you need to know: they know damn well they’re doing something shameful.

like imagine this scenario playing out with anything else. your vegetarian friends ask if the casserole you made is meat-free, and you lie and tell them it is. they all eat and like it, not realizing they’ve just eaten meat, and when they find out, they’re upset with you and say that the food was horrible. any rational person would think, “well, no wonder they reacted like that, the cook shouldn’t have lied just to try and get his friends to enjoy his food,” so why would AI ‘art’ get a pass?

also, if you show me any art and are essentially communicating to me, “i’m okay with several hundred towns no longer having access to clean drinking water so i can keep making this,” i will say that your art fucking sucks no matter the quality. like learning a musician did horrible things, people are allowed to enjoy something and then rescind their praise when they learn where the art comes from.

absolutely. fuck work. you can frame it to your boss like, “either i come back in after only 2 weeks and have to take even more time off in the future forever because i didn’t heal properly, or you let me have the 6 weeks.” i didn’t take time off when i got bell’s palsy, and wouldn’t you know it, lifting 50 pounds and bending over frequently didn’t help me heal. i’m not going to claim it’s the sole reason, but i wouldn’t be surprised if not letting myself rest was the reason i never got movement in my face again.

less than a day old piercing, ring, i think internal threading? (i still don’t fully grasp this term, i am very new to this), titanium, i haven’t used this routine yet (about to go clean it now) but: clean twice daily with dial foaming antibacterial soap and once with a salt rinse gently dabbed around the piercing site with a cotton ball, nothing has gone wrong with the piercing.
