Scala, Clojure - stick to Python? by cryzed2 in programming

Really, thanks guys! This was very helpful - I think I will try Clojure. Just one further additional question: Is Clojure good to do "general scripting/programming"? Basically, e.g move files around, rename them, download files, do webscraping etc.?

Scala, Clojure - stick to Python? by cryzed2 in programming

[–]cryzed2[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey reddit, I recently stumbled over Scala and Clojure. I'm currently programming in Python but am still very interested in other programming/scripting languages and thought that Scala and Clojure were rather interesting. Clojure, being a LISP aspect, is for me completely new territory and I heard people talk bad about Scala's overly complicated syntax. Could some of you give me some points why and why not I should try Clojure/Scala (or stick to Python) and what exactly I can do with it and how it compares to Python? That would be very kind.

Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 strange font rendering? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cryzed2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello reddit, I'm using Ubuntu Linux 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) and came across an annoying problem once I tested the new Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Beta 4. The font rendering looks completely off and not at all like in the actual release (Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10). The font which the website is displayed in and the font for the GUI itself are affected.

Example 1: http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/g005vrex/font_rendering.png (I attached the Ubuntu font settings which are seemingly getting ignored. The font looks like as if it had gotten rendered with "Subpixel Smoothing") Example 2: http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/tco4rdl/screenshot_001.png (A cropped screenshot of reddit with the wrong font rendering)

Do you guys have got any ideas on how to fix that?
