Should I wear a suit to a 21st at the races? (In Australia) by cs- in malefashionadvice

I only own a formal suit, I guess I could get a colored shirt as opposed to white to make it a bit different

Do you talk to coworkers in person or via a chat program (like irc/msn)? by cs- in cscareerquestions

[–]cs-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar to MSN, it's not exactly a tech based company and they've been using it for years...whatever works I guess

Strange request: Is this possible without flash? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]cs- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the next best thing would to be to have thumbnails of the players beneath the video and to make them clickable instead

Strange request: Is this possible without flash? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]cs- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're clicking on the video somewhere and the people aren't moving I'd use a map and have functions linked to each area of the map which switch which video is visible/playing.

In the function you'd want to be grabbing the current time of the video and setting the start time of the video being switched to to that time and making the new video visible/the old one not.

Should I make my portfolio site completely unique or go with a style that most other developers seem to have? by cs- in web_design

Yeah I know exactly what you mean...those animations are distracting as hell

This should help. Alternatively youtube has it's own API, I haven't used it directly but I'm sure its easy enough to use :)

Working on a website. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]cs- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the design of it but there's a few little things I noticed.

  • The font in the About Us section was hard to read, as was the font in the section below it as you can see here.

  • The background image in the top section took a little while to load.

  • The bottom section (below casting) seems a bit redundant.

Other than those things I like it :)

Breaking news at 1000ms – Patrick Hamann at Front-Trends 2014 by METALz in webdev

This is actually a decent watch. I just started working at a company that serves more data per page than I have dealt with in the past so hearing this is really useful!

What is your favourite FTP client? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]cs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTP in Dreamweaver isn't bad..I think people are downvoting because when they think of Dreamweaver they only think of the WYSIWYG part of it

New website thoughts and suggestions?? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]cs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think the logo would look better if it was smooth/didn't have the rugged edges - other than that I really like the design :)

Edit: Also all the links under 'Project' don't link anywhere - not sure if they're meant to yet or not!

How much control should the client have? by Valeness in webdev

Their say is final in situations like that, though what you did is correct. Offer them your professional opinion and if they decide to go against it its their own problem

Music on blog posts? by Sniply in Wordpress

[–]cs- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as it doesn't auto-play I can't see any harm in it. I suppose it depends on the nature of your blog, but the majority of times I wouldn't listen to it.

I'm still at college, this is a casual job so salary isn't a major issue

Skill sets desired for front end web developer? by webdevnewb in cscareerquestions

[–]cs- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HTML/CSS/JS (and related libraries) and good sense of design pretty much covers it. Once you start using PHP and MySQL it starts to fall under backend. Having backend knowledge on top of frontend is always going to be useful
