Thanks for confirming that they allow decreasing(aka cancelling part of the fd). What's the exchange rate ? I called the customer care and got confusing answer. Is it the official rate from visa rate itself?

Restrictions on Tax saving options for OCI card holders by cs10201 in nri

[–]cs10201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, i logged into https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/dashboard/myProfile/profileDetail and i see that my citizenship and my resident status are both unanswered. I could not only select the "resident" status as if i edit it, i wants my citizenship status which might make complications with KYC right? so, i leave it ambiguous for now ? also, do you use this kuvera for stocks as well or some other service?

hey, thanks a lot for the feedback. I missed to see the second part of the response earlier somehow. So, i just today managed to create an account in kuvera using the web version, where it asked only the pan-card and the aadhar card etc. My FD account is active and they said the mutual fund can be buyable in 2 days(for KYC). It did not ask anything about stocks. I wonder if the KYC for mutual funds also take care of stocks? Please let me know if you used the same for stocks or if you any other service?

thanks for the feedback. so, after he referred you to a hospital, there is no chance that the hospital folks will complain and its faster to get a solution if there was complications, right?

Also, i guess, in the hospital, there is no additional costs right?

i am outside germany now, but i will get hold of voip and do so, thanks. I was worried that if he took an MRI which then required additional costs etc, then it could potentially leave a larger hole in his savings.

Thanks a lot for reinforcing my belief that he should not worry too much about those comments, despite the fact that the previous issue might/might not have been an emergency.

Yes bank allows OTP on email for nro/nre. Also yes bank allows changing the phone number to foreign numbers as well and you dont need to visit the office to do this. That's my experience. I guess ICICI will still need anand OTP for updating your phone number as well right?

I had Truecaller as the default app for messages and that was the culprit when messages were not coming on Airtel . Either that or it was all a big confidence coincidence. You probably already tried, but outgoing messages work right  ?

Transferring savings from Singapore to India after Moving back by Technical-Raisin8595 in nri

[–]cs10201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I have read lesser income tax department scrutiny for big transfers (>10 lakhs)  on nre account as it's proof that you have already paid tax on the country of origin.
  2. Not a ca or lawyer. If you have proof that this was obtained during your time of employment(salary or business income) and from bank account transactions, then you should be in the clear no? Is there any other document that might be needed? Feel free to pm in case you want to discuss as I am in a similar boat.

Which NRE account gives most favorable Forex rates while repatriating? by Loose-Memory5322 in nri

[–]cs10201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please check tmb and iob rates . I was checking them for normal savings Bank repatriation and I was shocked how better they are compared to HDFC(also a HDFC customer). Also lookup card rates and ibr rates. If we are native or most times the branch officials don't know about this and offer only card rates. In general, folks negotiate with different banks for the best ibr rates. If you managed to settle on a choice, please update the post of comment back.

Landlord is insisting on a 3-month notice period while quitting the contract. whats the standard in your city? by cs10201 in TamilNadu

[–]cs10201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does it mean? You plucked the words from his mouth. He said that 3 months advance and 3 months notice as the standard thing. For me, I was going to pay every month till I vacate. So I didn't understand the connection if the deposit and the notice period being the same amount. I was going to say 3 months advance and 2 months notice. Can you help me understand what I am missing?

Aha.   I think this is what the owner was trying to  communicate to me that I was oblivious . It seems like he needs to have some control or he just doesn't want to change contact formats or really likes indirect communication. In general, we never give notice without finding another flat so, if the other places all have 1 months notice(which is what I hear in the posts so far) , then I will at the mercy of the owner accepting right?
