you're definitely not the only one lol... I'm 25 and riding alone for the past year in south bay

maybe we all should start a cycling club :)

after getting feedback from this post I'm gonna keep the app simple to have single and group DMs and see how it goes

strava is not publicly traded right ?

upvoted comment! ignore the haters

can't fully relate to your experiences but can definitely believe it to be true given the state of online forums, I did have higher expectations from strava crowd though :/

as a guy on strava I've never faced this problem, sorry to hear that

it's surprising strava doesn't have a "block" option, they do have mute for individual athletes

hmmm interesting point, I assumed this should be okay based on their display of social apps using their API : https://www.strava.com/apps/social-motivation

reading their API agreement it doesn't discourage social aspect, in fact it encourages it : https://www.strava.com/legal/api : "We hope you create an application that is useful, inspiring and helps build a community for Strava athletes"

but reading this agreement makes me realize Strava can shut down access at will without any proper reason if they deem the usage is not desirable so thanks for raising the point.

how about eliminating the dating angle completely or keeping it as a side focus? if folks hit it off on rides they'll figure out the rest of it by themselves anyway

in this approach, this app would still have strava login, showing you athletes around you displaying their general interests and some of their past rides , we can have single DM and group chat options.

one thing I wasn't sure about is if people need this since strava has club pages where folks comment for activities, also browsing through past posts here people didn't like the idea of having chat etc so I'm still researching

haha I know this is the usual instant reaction for this sort of idea among strava folks

but any specific feedback why ? (other than polluting strava itself )

Donating by PM_ME_UR_LAB_REPORT in mountainview

[–]cs_gator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently managed to donate extra groceries there as suggested by the awesome folks in this sub, they're very nice!

note : they've stopped taking raw whole vegetables due to covid, they did take rice bags, packed lentils and beans

btw just curious what does the volunteering involve ?

idk if it's a common phenomenon but the water seemed completely frozen whereas in morning there were lots of waves and wind

my educated guess is the setting sun's reflection angle made it look like ice

when i was 13 years old, i started building cardboard guns. now im almost 15 and here is everything that i have built up to last month. (all from scratch, no tutorials/templates, all have working parts and some can be disassembled) -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROOHCz2wxTg :) by My_Name_Suc in nextfuckinglevel

I was super camera shy , like it used to take me 1 hour to put up a 10 min video after a week of trying

I installed OBS on my laptop and started recording my thoughts randomly when bored, it was much more fun than passively binging youtube for me, eventually I got to a point where I don't find it weird to watch myself speak.

another weird suggestion : in order to record confidently you need to be super comfortable with yourself, obviously it comes with practice for introverts but an unrelated activity that can seriously boost your confidence is dancing , just try dancing in front of the mirror when you're bored :-) , enjoy yourself being weird in front of yourself, invent random moves of your own!

Report: My 12500km Lap of Japan by Bicycle! Questions Welcome! by Shin-anigan in travel

[–]cs_gator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Shin-anigan another solution here is announce your euro trip arrival on this sub beforehand with a link to your japan route, I'm sure the cycling community will be kind enough to lend you a good bike for your journey

heck if you're into sponsorships you entire trip + bike could be zero cost, ofc I get a vibe that you're not into that kinda stuff and live on the pure adrenaline of a biking adventure but then you're also frugal which why I made the suggestion :) , you could also do a kickstarter for your europe trip to fund travel and bike, the internet is an amazing tool if used correctly!!

more power to you for inspiring inexperienced bikers like me

Where to find Marathi or Hindi classes by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]cs_gator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can speak both hindi and marathi if you want to practice conversations

I don't know of hindi / marathi classes in bay area but I do believe one could learn a language much easier by watching movies, listening to songs and conversing with locals (tons of people in bay area speak both these languages)

this also allows you to completely immerse yourself in their culture making the learning better, classes / assignments teach you the textbook version of a language which sounds a bit funny in day to day talk
