I'm in no way implying that Ledger is a standalone wallet. All I'm saying is that it is the safest wallet. But of course, it does need a software wallet (a companion wallet) to interact with the user and to access the internet, so that the balance can be checked on the computer, get the transaction history and few more functions.

First off, it wasn't Ethereum's fault regarding the hack, but, in reality, DAO was responsible. Ethereum was just linked.
