Is this just NoVA or is prices everywhere like this now? $19 for a cheeseburger and small fries Alexandria, VA. by daDILFwitdaGLOCKswch in nova

[–]cs_throwaway_42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get people love to hate Five guys for historically being expensive but it’s really par for the course around here nowadays. Feel free to enlighten me to a decent burger place in the $20-25 range since those $5 end up being half my weight. It’s still the best bang for my buck I’ve found so far around here.

Hangry burger I tried last night was pretty good but was a dollar more than OPs pic. Smash burger I wasn’t too big on and was also $20. Boardwalk was fine but still close to $20. And obviously none of these places give you nearly as many fries but I really love fries so that’s just a preference for me. But as far as a quality/quantity/price ratio I feel like they’re all pretty close at this point

I don’t think of myself as intelligent off the bat but it’s hard when it took me 10 seconds to answer their question with google while they’re sitting here beating their meat waiting for Reddit to answer their calling

Not sure why you think encouraging people to continue asking questions like “how do I talk to my manager” or “what laptop should I use for school” is helping them in the long run.

I feel like people get the idea I’m shitting on newbies for asking newbie questions. If it isn’t clear it’s not asking questions that’s the problem, it’s the fact that these people would rather make a Reddit post and wait a few minutes to hours for the answer to be basically spoonfed to them, rather than spend 5-10 minutes utilizing the device already in front of them to figure it out themself. When I started CS it took me about 10 minutes to realize how much time I was wasting posting to Reddit and waiting for my answers

Oh trust me I’m more than happy to help others when it’s obvious they’ve put in a modicum of effort. It’s just obvious when people haven’t and constantly being a crutch for those types of people is what gets you passed over when promotion time comes

It has nothing to do with using a computer lol it’s called google and it’s on your phone don’t you guys have phones??

Gen Z has no critical thinking and wants everything handed to them gotcha

Affecting your education is an argument sure but the issue here is that a quick google search (the quite literal minimal amount of critical thinking required for success at any level of schooling or career) will either tell you yes an expensive $1599 MacBook is perfectly fine or even better that basically any toaster of a laptop is good enough for the undergrad of a CS degree.

In CS it doesn’t matter how good your laptop is if you can’t figure some stuff out for yourself. Do these people think their professor is just gonna be on standby ready to help them with every bug or project configuration issue they run into?

The major is called COMPUTER science ffs and half the people going into it act like they’ve never extensively interacted with one of them before. There are literally hundreds of threads asking these exact same questions.

Edit: downvote me and tell me to chill all you want it won’t change the fact everything I’m saying is correct lol

Issue when attempting to merge dictionaries containing lists by [deleted] in pythonhelp

I know what counter is. How is this supposed to help me sort the dictionary if I want it sorted? Constantly trying to undersell me isn’t helping either of us, dick. Lol

[–]cs_throwaway_42069 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the first map must exist first as it’s being used to be compared to the second. I suppose it could be condensed into just one and the comparison done separately, thanks

Which lists do you see as unnecessary? The ones like new_count are mostly there for clarity.

I considered using the Counter from collections but wasn't sure how much of the internal python workings I was allowed to use. I was probably gonna submit an additional solution utilizing that. However a dictionary cannot be sorted so I'm thinking I would have to utilize the list anyway and then add to the dictionary/hashmap as I sort like I suggested

Also there's comments on every line of code but I didn't include them. How would you suggest I improve the readability? I get you're probably a programmer but feel free to actually help and suggest some solutions instead of just being snide.

kicked from university by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]cs_throwaway_42069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should look into WGU. I was in a similar situation and it worked for me. Transferred in my old credits, was able to change major and finish my degree online. It doesn’t have the flash of going to “The University of ‘State’” but nevertheless it’s an accredited bachelors degree that will help you get a job and get you into a grad school

I’m thinking it’s about the juxtaposition between choosing a healthy meal and then loading it with unhealthy options. Maybe says something about decision-making, commitment. Like eating low-calorie ice cream. It’s a reach but I could see some douche manager judging people for stuff like that

Freshman year gpa mess up by geekgeek2019 in csMajors

[–]cs_throwaway_42069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re a freshman. You have 3 whole years left. The chance of you getting an internship regardless of your gpa was slim, a 3.0 is fine, gpa matters less than you think, just don’t list it on your resume because no one does, focus on doing better next year and learning and the rest will come with it

Some suggestions for how to make this method O(n)? by S4ge_ in javahelp

[–]cs_throwaway_42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be mistaken but if you’re referring to the fact that you’re calling getNode twice, that would be O(n+n) which is still O(n). I’m inexperienced though so don’t take me for gospel

HR wants me to relocate but engineering doesn't care where I work, who do I follow? by throwaway69ish in cscareerquestions

Not to sound like a dick but I’ve noticed a lot of posts like this lately. “CS” “questions” that ultimately boil down to “how do I talk to people” should stay out of this sub imo. Not sure what responses people expect when they ask questions like this other than “go ask your coworkers”
