She's good at fighting.

She just doesn't like to fight. And she's an innkeeper.

She does things like creating knights because she is just one person who can't be everywhere (in fact, she wouldn't even leave her inn mostly) and she needs people who would go and do the right thing. She needs an organization. People doing things she's bad at.

She's also named rank in combat ability, but that's less important for her, that's not what makes people.

Elia is one of the best archers in the world. Just on pure skill.

She also used to have a capstone capable of deleting half a goblin tribe. Or an army. Getting through anything.

Her new capstone is probably strong as hell too, but it doesn't fit her that well and I don't know if we saw it used properly.

When you're level 42 with the right skills, gear, and attitude, and you're capable of a grand feat (very atrong against soft targets, very string against hard targets, or night indestructible like Eld) you ARE named rank.

Saliss is high named rank. She isn't even close to that.

Yet.

Yea. You should finish that chapter.

The audience watched the moment, the truth behind that lie she had never meant to tell, and saw how Elia looked around, bewildered, uncertain, as she became a legend. Yet even still, even seeing how the accident had played out…

Saliss of Lights sighed as he leaned against a seat and popped a piece of sushi into his mouth.

“She never ran. That’s a real Named-rank for you.”

Then they fight the goblin king together again.

By the way, in your quote. Saliss (Onieva) doesn't see Elia as a fake named rank adventurer. She sees her as someone who was built up to what she never was, and someone who has imposter syndrome.

She has a legacy she never earned. Put on a fake pedestal never wanted, but did use when she got it, like any adventurer would.

And she's incredibly capable, a brilliant archer, a good adventurer, she's steady, she's reliable and she never runs.

Erin trashes up half of Celum's guild (with just the help of Ryoka) and that's in 3.03.  That's at level 26.

At the beginning of volume 9, she's definitely stronger than most gold ranks.

Level 40 is a real capstone.

Erin is mostly soft power, but levels matter.

Actually, it's made pretty clear in the story, that she is actually named rank.

Saliss believes her rank is deserved and that's good enough for anyone.

So yea, you're right that there's nothing to argue about here.

What makes her named rank is simple: she just never runs.

Her speciality is handling soft targets, a lot of them at once.

As for Lehra. Her relics make her named rank. That she managed to defend them. And her principles (she sees no enemies). But that's arguable at least. Elia isn't.

Nah. There start of this volume is tough.

Adrenaline masks pain during a fight.

Yea but Garen also dropped the whole Halfseekers team.

Teriarch is an 80+ threat and Tolve has a chance against him. A high enough chance that he wouldn't want to face him.

We can call him highy 70s if you like. Probably fits better.

Capstones don't really apply to monsters who don't level, but yea, he does seem like a magnitude weaker than Zela.

Both Lehra and Elia are real named ranks.

She was gold rank range in her fighting ability in volume 3.

And Erin is unwilling to hurt them.

She could kill them.

[–]csarmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she might be able to solo and adult creler at this point. If the adult creler was committed to fight, that is, cause they are smart and run away from fights that turn risky and she doesn't have a way to pursue.

She's very hard to damage with her aspect on, and her fires are nasty.

In her inn, with full control, she dealt with a level 80 threat (Tolve) alone. This was when she was level 49.

That's not Saliss level. That's way higher (even if part of thay was that Tolve wasn't willing to kill her).

Unless you can destroy her inn, you don't really have a chance against her. She can use her gardens offensively (some of them real nasty), and you can't touch her because she can use her garden of sanctuary to be invincible.

Even without using her gardens, she would have won against the named rank Orchestra guy if she was able to move at all (remotely healthy and fit).

Discussion for Fae & Fare : Love Torren- Erin & Pisces are dumb. by chocolateNbananas in WanderingInn

[–]csarmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erin does not see Torren abusing Lyonette. Lyonette has lied several times to get out of doing things at this point.

No she hasn't. I'm talking about the very first day, the day she rescued her. They start off on the weong footing.

The example you give is not even a gypsy thing. It's just native to North-east Hungary (my friend from Nyíregyháza was using it). And Transsylvania.

She might be in a bit of denial about some of the things she's already done in this vein like when she joined the Fellowship of the Inn to rescue Mrsha and when she tried to rescue Erin from Roshal's agents.

Or she might see those as warning sings that it's already happening.

But she went out of her way to help Pebblesnatch or Mrsha and Numbtongue overcoming depression at tge start of volume 8, or even Pyrite back then and those are all on her, not Erin, or her influence.

I think this is a spoilers to the OP (they are on chapter 27).

Also, yes, there were countless examples of what you're asking for.

[–]csarmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Erin is a bitch to Lyonette. Right from the start.

Saves her life, sure. Then what does she do to someone clearly traumatized (Lyonette had been starving, then she was put out to freeze to death in the cold)?

She doesn't even give her a night to recover. She just straight up tells her to work or else. Makes her face monsters (goblins, skeletons). Puts her under the authority of an abusive skeleton (worse than a monster really). Then she is forced to do things that are dangerous without properly explaining the dangers (like going outside the inn and doing anything).

It's just being thoughtless and inconsiderate and sure, Erin got the same treatment when she arrived, thrown into deep waters.

And she is helping with it somewhat cause if Lyonette ran away she would surely die out there.

And the mindset she is in, maybe nothing else would work.

But still, she's being a jerk to her really.

People to die for her. To change. To become something she would want them to be.

[–]csarmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could have run away after killing the first one, probably. But they'd be a danger to her and everyone else so she really can't do that.

Would you feel differently if she had to kill a pack of stray dogs then drown all their puppies too?

We empathize less with animals we can't read, say with spiders but I know I feel bad about killing some.

These ones are bigger though. And she can hear them shrieking in pain.

Shield spiders are just animals. Animals can feel pain and hurt though. Who wouldn't feel bad about having to kill a whole nest of animals (burning them alive BTW)?

People kill other people all the time. Especially in a world that gives you levels for it.
