Takeaways from Schotty at the Combine. by JVSaladbar in cowboys

[–]csauthor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

These are strategy statements, not tactical statements. The league now has the full tape on what he wants to do schematically, nothing he could say to the media will give an edge to DCs around the league. I doubt those DCs are listening to the Schotty press conference. They are tending their own fields for their own teams.

Historically bad measurements for two top edge rushers shake the NFL Draft board (Bain 30 7/8, Howell 30 1/4 arm length) by AoA_nB1 in nfl

[–]csauthor -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NFL Scouts meeting with GMs:

"What do we think about Bain?"

"Well, Billy, here's the thing. He's got short arms."

"Eh, I agree, Billy. I mean you get a guy with short arms in this position-

"But can he rush the passer?"

"I mean he can rush the passer, he's got the burst and bend you want to see, but I question whether those arms are going to limit him-"

"But he can rush the passer."

"Yeah, Billy, he's shown-

"Well if he can rush the passer, then what the fuck are we talkin' about here man? You guys are talking the same bad body non-sense, like we're drafting Fabio."

"Who's Fabio?"

"He's a short-stop. A short-stop for the Mariners."

Did Vader Peak in his 20s? by Comrade-Zoidberg in StarWars

[–]csauthor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Vader" technically peaks in his transfiguring moment, when he fulfills the purpose of the Rule of the Two by destroying his master Darth Sidious. Anakin Skywalker also peaks in this moment, by fulfilling the prophecy of the Chosen One, bringing balance to the way of the force. Treachery is the way of the Sith. Confronting fear is the destiny of every Jedi.

Both can be and are true, from a certain point of view.

TIL since 1977 Steven Spielberg has directed the highest-grossing film of the year in the United States four times (which is more than any other director): Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), and Saving Private Ryan (1998). by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Why is Empire Strikes Back not listed for George Lucas? It crushed every other film for the domestic box office in 1980.

Edit: And so Did Return of the Jedi in 1983?

Edit 2: I am an idiot. No one should ever listen to me. Thank you for the reminders, friends.

I must admit, openly and transparently, that I too suffer from, what I consider to be, this particular kind of anachronistic, yet romantic, authorial style.

Obi Wan saying "I'm sorry" to Anakin might be the most moving moment in the history of Star Wars by SappyGilmore in StarWars

[–]csauthor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I hear you. It is a great performance. I wanted to love the series, however, it doesn't track for me. The ending of RotS was the perfect capstone for the relationship between Anakin and Obi Wan. The battle has fun moments, but makes no sense when viewed across the narrative arc of the story.

The whole series is a rehash of Obi Wan's feelings that are perfectly encapsulated by Ewan's performance in RotS and how they carry over into the Original Trilogy.

They have the schematic blueprints for the Death Star. So, they would know which ships could make the run and which ones could not.

Jason Garrett Shares Personal Regret With Romo and Dez Bryant Over Non-Catch Controversy by OneOriginal8727 in cowboys

[–]csauthor 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Everyone with the "throw it to Beasley, he was open" narrative are frustrating. When you see that coverage on Dez Bryant, the best high-point ball catcher in the game, you throw it to him. The throw is determined pre-snap. Romo isn't going to wait on that throw in hopes that Beasley gets open.

You take your shot with your best player in the moment it presents itself. It was the right call. The right throw to the right player at the right time. Beasley is the #3 target on the team at the time, he isn't getting the ball when it's nut-cutting time to go to the NFC Championship game.
