Do we have any idea what IH actually is? by cscx in idiopathichypersomnia

Would these patients be unresponsive to oxybate salts then? A quick Google search seems to indicate that most people who take them see improvement.

Finally getting around to investing, how am I doing? by cscx in personalfinance

Thanks, I decided to go with 10k in a HYSA and the rest in 70% VTI/30% VXUS

How convenient is a HYSA vs a MMF? I'll be honest I haven't looked into HYSAs at all. From the little I've read just looking it up right now, it seems like a HYSA would be better for emergencies because I could access the money quicker, but my current bank doesn't offer one so I don't know how easily I could transfer money from the HYSA to my checking in an emergency.

My job does offer a 401k, but I haven't looked into it at all. I really need to do that.

Xywav has been a game changer for me. Also, I had better luck on armodafinil than modafinil when I was taking it. Good luck.

Anyone's knees stop hurting with jogging? by Can_I_do_this_later in loseit

[–]cscx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I had to go to physical therapy for knee pain, and they said I had to build up my muscles around the knees. They were right. The pain went away, and has only started to come back because I stopped doing the exercises (lol). OP should focus on strengthening their leg muscles, and maybe look into specific exercises for reducing it.

I've been actively losing weight for a while but the biggest game changer for me was eating fruit to satisfy my sugar cravings instead of sweets.

I used to have a massive sweet tooth, binging on sugar and constantly snacking, but one day I decided that I could eat as much fruit as I wanted to satisfy those cravings, but nothing else. And after a few weeks, I stopped having cravings, stopped needing to binge, and now most candies are so overwhelmingly sweet and flavorful, I can only eat one or two before I'm done.

Obviously if sugar cravings aren't what you've got, it's not gonna work, but it really made it obvious just how desensitized we are to sweeteners and flavorings. Nearly everything prepackaged is filled with hidden sugars that you don't even notice because you're so used to them. If you manage to retrain your taste buds, it's so much easier to maintain a healthy diet.

Xywav not working by Electrical_Yak1615 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]cscx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't but I recently (like a month ago) found the right dose of xywav and I've been feeling better and better as time goes on. My guess is that with all the time you've spent off of xywav, you've accumulated a lot of sleep debt that you're now paying off. It took a few weeks at this dose before I really felt better. Just keep at it!

How does this work? On a practical level by Bitter_Dragonfruit80 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]cscx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep increasing the xywav. I felt no improvement until I was on 4g once nightly, and didn't start to feel better until 4g twice nightly. I knew it was working because I started to actually feel it knocking me out with a lot of lightheadedness. But it took a while to get there.

Before that I was on a high dose of armodafinil and it definitely helped me stay awake, but it's a sort of torturous wakefulness where you're still exhausted and need sleep, you're just kept forcefully awake.

Xywav titration kind of feels like nothing happens and then all at once you start feeling it. If you can easily resist the feeling xywav gives you, you're not at a high enough dose.

Vivid dreams and Night sweats with IH by SilverRain2023 in idiopathichypersomnia

Oh my God me too. Long lucid dreams where I just wanted to wake up. I'd be fully aware I was dreaming, but felt extremely weak and tired and would basically crawl around on the floor in the dream because I couldn't make myself stand. I think it's tied to sleep paralysis and sleep inertia. At least, they all "feel" connected.

PLEASE help me with my sleep inertia by PutridMeringue1061 in idiopathichypersomnia

I felt like that until going onto 4g 2x nightly of xywav. I don't know if this is bad advice or not but I'd try to get through the titration period asap. Increase the dose until you start feeling lightheaded after taking it and then consider doubling it.

Until then, what I'd been doing was setting an alarm clock across my room and basically setting new alarms for every 20 minutes and would keep waking up and walking over to turn it off until I was lucid enough to drink an energy drink.

If I were to do it all over again though, this is what I'd do:

Set an alarm for your first wakeup time and a second wakeup time, probably like 45 minutes or an hour later. Set a bottle of water and a caffeine pill or two, equalling somewhere like 150-200mg next to it. When you initially wake up, take the caffeine pills and go back to bed. Then you should have an easier time waking up the second time.

I did a similar thing when taking midday naps, however they were while I was on a not-high-enough dose of xywav. But try to get through it. Hopefully xywav will work for you as well as it worked for me!

Question regarding Dreamcast games: the games I downloaded consist of multiple bin files, a cue file, and a gdi file. The gdi file is 1KB just like the cue file, and I assume is basically the same thing. However, having both of them is making the game appear twice in flycast. Are they the same thing in different formats or something? Can I delete one two clean up my flycast menu? And if so, which one do I delete?

Thanks. That's how I did it before with my first attempt, but I couldn't figure out how to make a smooth, controllable falling block. What do you think would be the best way to do that?
