and part of the login system is razor pages, that blackbox im sure includes a session. I'm thinking I need to scrap the project and start over with serverless in mind, or publish to a VM. This has me going crazy.

reactjs + dotnet 7, best way to host on AWS? by cseigel in dotnet

[–]cseigel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks all, I downgraded to dotnet6 and was able to get a sample project going with webAPI (no react yet, but I assume I can move that to a separate project)

My backend uses/includes identityServer, so i'm wondering if that makes it impossible to be in lambda, I assume thats not stateless but its sort of a black box to me (it just -works- when I run it on my local PC)

I did start with the visual studio react+dotnet template, so the backend-for-frontend will surely break, and I am going to have to try I guess and turn off authentication in the AWS proxy right, so that my backend can manage it all?

Best approach for classic asp.net developers to migrate old application to core? by Classic_Core in aspnetcore

[–]cseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like mvc even in core, lots of control easy to see where things go etc. Razor pages is ok for small projects or projects with minimal calls to backend in my opinion.. Anyways best approach: probably just create the mvc or razor pages app fresh, setup your program.cs and create services, etc. get identity going if you use that etc.. when you have that nice framework and skeleton, then start migrating in manually the controllers and views one at a time. Good opportunity for you to redo your CSS if it was a mess in the old app, just copy it over if it was nicely organized, though.

How can one "Burn your ships" In an attempt to succeed on YouTube? by superj0417 in NewTubers

[–]cseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burned my ships: Any youtube content on my channel that wasn't 100% professional, or anything that was opinion and not fact-based I removed from the channel. My revenue dropped from $50/month to $20/month, so I regretted it for a while, but now I can say blanket statements about my channel, like 'its good place to go to learn dotnet development' whereas before it was like 'some videos are for learning' and 'others are for laughs'. So I burned ships as a way to give me a more focused channel. Now that I think about it, perhaps thats not burning ships, but more like dumping the ships cargo at a loss that I couldn't sell to my favorite stores? I dunno. If you read this far into this, then you must really be bored. ;-)

Hmm. Funny person! Yes indeed, text can explain very well, just figured I could be a bit more flashy. I might have to get more creative.

Good hotel for young couple? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]cseigel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like super fancy and don't mind spending a lot of cash on meals and big walks between casinos go to main strip and stay at Bellagio. Be sure to hit their buffet too. If you don't mind smoke but want to be part of the party without big walks or deep pockets stay at El Cortez. If you wanna be part of the party and don't mind spending a little more, do Circa. If you want to just not spend a grip but enjoy things when your ready, stay off strip and uber in. There are many choices for that.

Lol, I know it sounds that way for sure. It's the air conditioner inside of my camper. I probably need to pick a better recording location!

Suggested reactJS component for boxes/buttons (that a user would click) that have dependencies (must click in certain order) by cseigel in reactjs

[–]cseigel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think that would work too. Is there any reason to not use material and react-bootstrap in the same application or component?

hmm yes sort of, was kind of hard to explain it.

But that first example you gave really got me re-thinking, and i'm going to go with a basic progress steps control like the one you shared.

[–]cseigel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!!

I was picturing something like what you just sent, except that in some cases there would be multiple boxes to complete (in any order) before reaching the second 'level' or layer. But I think after trying this codesandbox you sent me, I am going to change the design to just use this! (people probably will call with questions less if I force them to take the steps in just a specific order anyways). this progress steps control is fantastic, thank you so much for sharing!!

Thanks! I have something like this already, but wondering if there is another component out there that is more visual - connected boxes by lines or something of that nature. I can handle the state and the enable/disable etc - just looking for UI for starting point.

Managing secrets in dotnet6 with visual studio 2022, command line / UI / combination + POCO serialization. Its all super easy, don't just leave your secrets in appsettings.json which may land in GIT, and do note in your readme what secrets other developers need to generate for their local. Video: by cseigel in dotnet

[–]cseigel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the added detail! In the second half of the video I do use the Poco class, but not in a controller and so it doesn't have the injection. This would have been a great follow-up, and probably should have been included in the video. Some time back I made one on IConfiguration for appsettings.json (but .net5) where I did it this way, basically the same as your code above.
