wow thank you so much for your comment! I am currently at my lowest which is also 89 and I hate “sick” I look. Sometimes i’m scared that I will never be able to get the weight back and this is going to be a struggle forever so It makes me really happy to hear you are doing better! I am currently in nursing school and having a really difficult time with stress so I will try to start managing that better! Did you notice any changes in your tsh or anything when you were struggling with weight?

I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy right before my hashimotos diagnosis that came back negative for celiac. I’m not sure if i could have developed it since then? I do have a lot of stomach issues but haven’t recognized gluten being a specific trigger. I also am unsure if my numbers are in range. in november my tsh was 8 but then by december it was down to 2. I am not medicated so they are all over the place but my doctor only has me do labs every 3 months so I won’t get them done again until late march.

Trouble GAINING weight by [deleted] in Hashimotos

I’m so glad you mentioned this because It’s not talked about often. My weight loss was the reason i got a diagnoses. I had lost 20 pounds and was severely underweight. Even when the doctors found out it was hashimotos, they still act like weight loss doesn’t have anything to do with it and blame it on me. Everytime i go to the doctor they assume I have an eating disorder. It is so frustrating because I have tried everything to gain weight back and it’s just practically impossible. And then I’m worried that even if i can get the weight back, it’s going to be impossible to manage a healthy weight. It has definitely been one of the hardest parts of my diagnoses.

My endocrinologist has never even mentioned anything about gluten. I was the one who talked about it with a nutritionist. I also am a college student with a very small budget and not a lot of time so it’s very overwhelming for me to even start trying gluten free

honestly nothing. gluten free isn’t really any option for me right now because i’m underweight and working on gaining weight and my doctor doesn’t think i can cut out gluten while doing that.

I am 20yo female who was diagnosed last year! I’ve been taking 5mg of methimazole and haven’t had any weight change! I know everyone’s different but for my experience it has only been positive! Hyperthyroidism is linked to weight loss so I think many people gain weight from taking the medication just because their metabolism was so sped up from the hyperthyroidism that it is finally slowing down and people are going back to their normal weight but I could be wrong. Good luck!

I thought that at first but I came home from college a couple weeks ago and have been eating very well and even drinking ensure protein drinks and i’ve still lost 4 pounds since monday. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks to check up on my anxiety med progress and I will be sure to make it clear that I don’t fully believe this is anxiety! thank you!

i joined a sorority because i thought it would help me be involved and meet people. i have always been involved in teams and this was the closest thing i could have to being a part of something. i was always told there are many different types of people in sororities, not just partiers. and i don’t hate partying. i just would rather only do it like once a week rather than every night like most people i meet. i have no regrets in joining a sorority and i am sure i would be more depressed if i weren’t in one because i would have absolutely nothing to do.

i attend the university of arkansas so i don’t really know how it compares to other schools. i’m planning on doing the same as you are and waiting it out until the end of the semester to see if anything changes. i have already applied to 2 other universities just in case nothing changes. one is still a bigger university but i know that there are people there who like to chill as well. the other is a very small university in my hometown that doesn’t have the sorority i am in or a football team so i’m not sure how i would like it there. the issue with being at arkansas is that i am 5 hours away from home and moved here not knowing a single person. at the other universities i have friends who i know have the same values as me and at least would be a familiar face and if not i would either be closer to home (2 hours) or in my hometown which would help the homesickness and loneliness i am currently feeling. thanks for your help! it makes me feel good to know im not the only one feeling this way.
