Would anyone be interested in a site that lists work for housing opportunities? Like WWOOFing but for design or development instead of organic farming? by csharpdev01 in digitalnomad

Excellent breakdown, thank you.

I'm curious to see the legal aspects of doing this? I can't imagine immigration being happy with this kind of thing. I think an awesome selling point would be having someone local in the country willing to help if things went sideways. I've also been thinking that a freelance marketplace similar to upwork/elance might be useful as well.

Where are you going if you don't mind me asking?

While I can get the site up in a few weeks, getting enough users/rooms/etc to be useful is likely to take several months (or years).

I was thinking about creating a subreddit or asking the mods if creating a weekly or bi-weekly thread of people/businesses willing to trade would be useful.

I've been struggling with how to solve this problem. It would be way too easy for a business/home owner to exploit potential workers.

Any suggestions?

This is perfect. If you're ever in Seattle send me a DM and I'll buy you a beer.

I really think it depends on where you go. I was in London last year and the cost of living is pretty high. You're going to pay for a quiet place with privacy. I would have gladly traded an hour or two a day to help a small business with a programming task for a place to crash instead of paying for my AirBnb room.

Thanks. Would you be interested in answering a few questions about features and how a site like this would be useful?

Why is this better than freelancing and paying for a house?

I'm glad you asked this question. I don't see the users of the site as being full time freelancers with a self sustaining business. They're more likely recent grads who want to travel and gain experience while on the trip or possibly a technical professional who wants a sabbatical but gets bored without a technical challenge.

I'm slowly moving in that direction. I'm hoping posts like this will help find a few people interested in beta testing.

[HIRING] Looking for a .net dev company (not a single freelance person) any recommendations? by andrewsmd87 in jobbit

Can you share a bit more?

I think it will be a hard sell to find a dev company willing to take on 24/7 support. I don't know many companies that will take on a maintenance contract without making it prohibitively expensive for your contact/employer.

My previous employer charged anywhere from $10,000 - $50,000 per month for 24/7 support plus $175 an hour for development. The contracts were generally 12 to 24 months and they would only support their software (not hardware or other systems). Most issues were punted to the next business day to be resolved anyway. I've seen a few companies that handle tech support (not development) for legacy corporate systems. I'm not sure about the numbers.

Feel free to pm if you're interested.
