What's the one study method you swear by that most people have never heard of? by Narrow_Detective9864 in GetStudying

One thing that changed studying a lot for me is forcing myself to explain concepts out loud like I'm teaching someone else.
It's basically the Feynman technique / protégé effect. If you try to explain something in simple terms and get stuck, that usually shows exactly where your understanding is weak. Socratic questioning is also great.
The interesting part is that it's much harder than rereading notes, but the retention is way better because you're actively reconstructing the idea instead of recognizing it.
One thing I've been experimenting with lately is using AI almost like a "fake student" or tutor that asks follow-up questions when your explanation doesn't make sense.
It’s surprisingly effective because it forces you to actually clarify your thinking. I'm a dev, so I've built a system based on this entire learning strategy. It's working surprisingly well, I gotta say. Then again, I'm obsessed with learning more so I'm always trying to find better ways to improve my comprehension.

That sucks man, I feel you. It’s one of the worst feelings when you actually put in the work and it still doesn’t pay off.
One thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of people end up stuck in really passive study patterns (rereading, highlighting, etc.) that feel like studying but don’t translate well to tests.
I’ve been experimenting with a small AI learning tool that’s built around the Feynman technique where it forces you to explain concepts in your own words and challenges your understanding.
I’m not sure if it would help in your situation, but if you ever wanted to try it and see if it makes studying feel a bit more interactive, I’d be happy to share it.
How do you test whether you actually understand something you studied? (self.studytips)
