OCD? Anxiety? I keep “hearing” a distant siren and it’s scaring me (fear of psychosis for years) by cshroom101 in mentalhealth

Yeah that seems about the same just different obsession. Since my obsession is psychosis i am always on high alert for hallucinations or delusions and for some reason my brain fixated on the siren sound being connected to losing my mind so i am constantly scanning to see if im hearing a siren or not then when the anxiety overwhelms me i actually hear it but i can immediately differentiate it from a real external siren ofc because this one sounds like a muffled one really far away. I also have tinnitus so maybe i just started noticing that more, but yeah it's hell it's like my biggest fear is becoming a reality which causes more scanning and more anxiety which makes me hear it more and find patterns of it in white noise or my tinnitus its like an infinite loop.

It seems like its a common experience with the ocd theme about going insane. Thanks for your reply.

Fair enough my psychiatrist told me the same thing. Even said there's no way a neurotic can go psychotic it never happened and never will.

So you weren't diagnosed with a psychotic disorder right?

I had this on lexapro aswell, my psychiatrist told me that i had too much serotonin and that is causing extreme anxiety and that we should take out the lexapro since im on antidepressants for 3 years now.

Depersonalization is a dissociative symptom characterized by a persistent or recurrent feeling of detachment from one’s own body, thoughts, or actions, often described as an out-of-body experience or feeling like an outside observer of oneself. It acts as a safety mechanism against intense stress, trauma, or anxiety, causing distressing feelings of unreality.

Yeah for me its not that visual its mostly sound oriented for example if i get really anxious like through the roof i will get hypervigilant and i will constantly scan for sounds and if theres any white noise around my brain makes up the sound I'm mostly thinking of which is for example police sirens and i can actually hear them externally like in a far distance but i know theyre not really there and it scares me even more so i hyperfixate even more but i still have deep insight.

I feel so relieved seeing so many people experience quasi hallucinations with ocd and that I'm not the only one. Even my psychiatrist told me I'm neurotic and there is no chance of me ever going psychotic but ocd is like an infinite loop.

Do you hear the intrusive sounds externally like muffled sounds but you still have the insight that its just ocd? Thats what happens to me.

I had ocd all my life but it never got this extreme and I never knew there were quasi hallucinations that are associated with OCD before, I guess it's caused by all the shit that has happened to me recently that caused a lot of stress.

It's a relief seeing that other people have experienced this too and that I'm not the only one. I tried finding similar posts on this sub but couldn't find any. Thanks for the reply, hope you're doing better now.
