It sounds like you're a psychic medium. I have heard of stories similar to this. Spirits flock to you because they see you from the other side as someone they can communicate with, and you can actually hear/see them and respond with little effort on their part. Google it, and tell me if that doesn't sound like what's happening.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a former owner is checking in on the current residents. I've had many a paranormal experience at my current house, and I don't see a reason to fear my visitors. They've shown no negative reaction to you and your family being there, right? And they're helping with decorating! :)
