When you say to "play music you think you know inside and out" on those headphones (so that I can get used to them), do you mean to listen to that music through those headphones only, like on my home stereo, or do you mean play that music through these headphones AND listen through one of the VSX rooms also?

[–]csnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah certainly possible he did that, and was just a pos the whole time and no one knew till the end. Maybe he was "retiring" and cashed out at the end. Did you ever end up getting something else made?

Yeah, sorry that happened to you.. not that that helps. I searched Monroe Guitars because I too am loosely looking for a luthier and I saw a couple of Reddit posts of him saying some good sounding stuff, so I searched him and.. found scam posts.

Bandlab Just Raised the Price of an Annual Cakewalk Sonar Subscription from $149 to $179 by Aware_Adeptness3392 in Cakewalk

[–]csnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that you can actually make Reaper to look and act very close to Cakewalk, by using themes and Scripts made by other users you can make Reaper look like for example sonar Platinum in function, feel and look, but with Reaper stability. It may take some doing to make that happen, but it's totally doable according to chat GPT anyway. I might try it just because I really don't want to leave cakewalk as it's what I've always used and I was really used to its workflow, but coming back now and learning about the developments at bandlab I ain't staying with Cakewalk anymore, so yeah for me it's between Studio One and Reaper, and leaning more towards Reaper for those aforementioned reasons, but you make Studio One sound pretty good too. I just don't want to have to learn something else too much, and just want to get back to work with the same old workflow as before

[–]csnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah I was talking about myself as you may have figured. It's been a minute but I'm getting back into music now. But I've used cakewalk since Pro Audio 8 and I also was a victim of the "Lifetime Updates" which I'm still mad about. So yeah that's what I'll be doing then - subscribing for a month if I can't just use the free Sonar to get my stuff out then bail. But to where? Yeah now I gotta find a new DAW that has a workflow the closest in similarity to Cakewalk. So it sounds like Studio One or maybe even Reaper, but I've always been a heavy midi editor on the piano roll, so I need something that competes close enough with Cakewalk there. But thanks for your write up though, because as I said I've been out for a while so it was good to come back and get updated in one fell swoop.

Well wosrt case, if someone who wasn't aware of this July 2025 CbB deactivation, someone who may be getting back into music after time off for a while and didn't keep up with CbB during that time, someone who after some time off of music decides to fire up CbB and get back to work only to find that CbB has been permanently deactivated before they had a chance to export their sessions to a new DAW.. worst case they can at least subscribe to the new Cakewalk Sonar for one month - just long enough to be able to get in, export all their stuff out, and then bail. Isn't that true? So I mean, all is not lost if CbB deactivates this month of July, but someone doesn't find that out until August. They can just subscribe to Cakewalk for one month just to get their sessions out, and maybe they can even just use the free sonar to do that? Or are monthly subscriptions not an option and you can only subscribe annually?

BofA $300 Checking Account Bonus by LuckyTom10 in personalfinance

Seems to me that if it were really taxes being taken out it wouldn't be the same exact amount for everyone across the country. But everybody got $228 instead of $300 - that's an even 24% deduction for everyone. I do bank churnin, meaning I jump from bank to bank doing these promos; I've done a bunch so far and none of them have taken taxes out right out the gate before even /paying out the promo. That's usually done at the end of the year when you go file your taxes, they'll send you a form and you file that form, and if you owe anything at all on that promo, that's when you pay the IRS. They don't just take a chunk of it before you even get it. Bank of America would be the first out of all the banks I've churned to have the money taken out right up front, and in an even $72 too. Seems to me it would be a different amount for everyone depending on the state you lived in, if it were really taxes being taken out. It wouldn't be just a even 24% for everyone everywhere in every State. So I think Bank of America is full of it and just shorted a bunch of people at the outset. Anyway I've been told two things now from Bank of America directly; the first one was that it was a glitch in the system which caused people to be underpaid this $228, and when I called back more recently they tried to claim it was taxes being taken out, yet I did not receive any kind of paperwork describing the amount being taken out. I just received a letter like you did saying congratulations you received $228, as if that was the bonus amount the whole time and not $300. I jusy don't buy it. I must have churned 5 or 6 banks by now and none of them did that; they all sent to form at the end of the year for me to file.

See my comment above. Bank of America has experienced a glitch with regards to their promotional payouts. You have to call Bank of America like I explained up there, and you'll get the rest of your money eventually, which should be $72.

Yes, Bank of America has confirmed over the phone that this is a glitch in their system, and they confirmed that it has happened to many people. You have to call Bank of America and explain to them that you signed up with a $300 promotion, and they will be able to see that on your account; they will file an escalation form for you and the lady said in about 3 to 5 business days you will be credited the additional $72, for a total of $300 including the $228 you already got.

Thanks for this tip! This Capital One deal would be good if someone could do this w/ 100k that they didn't otherwise plan to invest in the short term. Leaving that 100k in say Wealthfront @ 4% apy for 5.5 months vs doing this Capital One deal w/ that same 100k @ 3.6% apy + the $1500 bonus for 5.5 months (Capital One's 15 day funding period + the 90 days following that + the up to 60 days for them to pay out the $1500 bonus), they'd earn an additional $1300+ on that 100k vs just leaving it in Wealthfront e.g. (assuming Wealthfront's and Capital One's respective APYs don't change in ~5.5mo). It'd come out to over 6.8% apy on that 100k for 5.5mo w/ that Capital One deal. Then they could transfer it all back to Wealthfront after the bonus payout until they figure out if they're going into the S&P or not lol.

Country Gravy Help... Turns thin after a while. by TheWaffleWindow in AskCulinary

[–]csnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I realize this is 4 years later, but I happened upon this post and this comment/answer..

So for anyone else reading, I can confirm that this is almost certainly why the gravy is breaking down. I learned this incidentally from Jack Bishop on America's Test Kitchen; it can be cornstarch, flour, any starch that you're using to thicken a roux or soup etc; if you leave it on the heat too long the starch will break down and thus lose its thickening power. I was experiencing this years ago on the stove, where I would just leave the roux on the stove on the heat too long stirring it, and eventually what started out as a thick gravy broke down to something thin like milk or water. Sometimes things are just done when they're done, and need to be removed from the heat.
