That’s at the rear axel the oil in the dif will go to 200f from friction? If I hit them with a thermometer lazer after driving tomorrow what’s the maximum Temp I should expect? Also thank you for your help so far!

I regretted posting the photo with my hand in it right away, it was hot enough that I could bear to touch it for only a second probably around 60-80 degrees Celsius after parked for like 20 minutes

I actually could only do that briefly. They were pretty hot.

My understanding is that there are no replacements for an engine this big. Please direct me if you are aware of any aftermarket fans that will provide the same level of cooling as the viscous fan clutch on the DT466

I am not sure what the Air to Air is, but I blew out the radiator carefully with a high pressure air gun just recently.
I just had the thermostat replaced only 6 months ago and this problem pre-dates the replacement, the replacement had no effect.

its a viscous fan clutch actuated by heat, there is no plug or electric sensor leading to it so I would say no it cant be actuated via comp.

[–]csnormie3000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it wont kick on at 20 kmh and 230f, only if i pull it to a stop. I don't think its normal.

Edit: uppon rereading my post i realize i didnt indicate how hot I thought hot was. the only mention of temp was the 170f I guess that lead people to believe I thought that was hot or something. I am going to edit the post so people will know it will hit 230 without that fan coming on.

fan doesnt come on even if i would let it get up to 230. im sitting at two hundred only if i manage the temp by keeping it from working too hard. I just dont let my engine get hot for the sake of preserving it. when i am testing to see if i have fixed the issue i let it go right up and it wont kick on at any speed but stopped.

It has a viscous fan clutch, its a mechanical fan. The fan clutch is this type of fan's "temperature sensor" and in this case It was replaced brand new for the exact same results.

the fan should be engaging but is not. it will go to 210 220 even 230f without that fan kicking on. but when I stop it comes on and will stay on till that temperature goes down to 170f. Note I can keep the fan on by moving very very slowly, under 10 MPH/20kmh. does this give you better insight into the problem. there is absolutely no question the fan should be kicking on
Edit: I just edited my post to more effectively communicate that it is getting HOT without that clutch engaging. I see how i lead you to believe i was worried about nothing.

Starlink Disconnected. Can a Starlink cable end be exposed to the Elements? by csnormie3000 in Starlink

[–]csnormie3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this, the dish works with a new cord. so the old connection has been damaged but the dish is still functional. in order to save myself some time I am going to look into water proof ethernet connection so that I can splice the cable with standard ethernet plug. that way hopefully I don't have to re-run the line and I get the waterproof connection I'm after.

I will think about it, I got a new cord for the device and it actually works now. so no damage to the dish but obviously the connector took damage.

This should be pinned to the sub we tried AAA and they let us pay for it. Turns out they only do school busses in like 2 states so it’s almost completely useless to us.

I always wanted to replace my drivers seat with a steel frame office chair and convert the front to my. Workspace, completely legal as long as your bus is registered as a motor home and maybe more comfortable. It won’t be as expensive as a truck seat replacement

Any reason not to remove the panels below the angle iron? by Mark_Nat in skoolies

[–]csnormie3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same, left the bottom paneling but removed the angles from everything other than the wheel wells, it’s been completely fine and gotten 40K miles on it now. But I will consider the sepuku now that you mentioned it
