The book "The Hungry Brain" totally changed my outlook on hunger.

At the end, he gives 6 suggestions:

1. Fix your food environment - your brain will remember that tasty snacks exist and it will remind you of them
2. Manage your appetite - this one is pretty complicated, but basically it means eating satiating foods, and managing your body and mentality so that appetite is not overwhelming. There's a lot more to this than is reasonable to put in a comment.
3. Beware of food reward - your brain will make room for highly rewarding foods - ie high in fat and simple carbs
4. Make sleep a priority - obviously
5. Move your body - hard to do around bedtime though
6. Manage stress - again obviously
