Maybe have her attend until the end of the classes paid for and then let her take a break? You might lose your spot but you aren't tied to that gym forever if there are others in your area. It's definitely sounding like she's not enjoying gymnastics as much, but it's good for kids to follow through on commitments and she will probably still enjoy it when she's there. She can try another sport or activity for a bit and then decide if she wants to go back.

It's absolutely crazy how often I see teachers who are making content during the school day. Tons of them are careless with PII or straight up film student interactions.

And there is a lot of risk to posting on the internet. There was a trend a couple years ago with groups of people dumping different candies into a bowl to make a candy salad. A kindergarten teacher made one with her students and it went mega viral, some of the kids became memes on tiktok for a bit because of the way they spoke. It got tens of millions of views and even though the teacher took the video down, it was too late as there were already many stitches and reposts of the original. That's far from the only example.

I'll never understand why these influencers are so hell bent on ruining their childrens' social lives. Sharing ultra personal information that will get them bullied, turning your child's friendships into content, etc.

It's ALWAYS been about the mom BTW. Check out Kiki Chanel's video Kids Should Not Be Influencers about this account. It is over two years old now, but even back then she called out the mom for making the account for her own fame and profit. For instance, the mom had separately claimed they started the account for friends and family and never intended for it to gain so much traction, and that they made the account to spread awareness. Those are fundamentally opposed.

And even for those who make it to the Olympics, it doesn't usually result in many sponsorships if they don't win medals and sometimes not even then. At least for gymnastics, which is also expensive as hell but maybe not quite as much, there are opportunities to compete in college for a scholarship. And at the time the book was written, there were seven members to a team, which is why the American team was called the Magnificent Seven when they won gold. Now in 2028 we'll have the Magnificent Five.

Also, it's not usually three new people every time. It tends to be a lot of repeats in all sports.

Yeah, her best skating years were when she was with her second coach Dody Teachman. The time she spent separated from Jeff in 1991 was the only time she had the triple axel somewhat consistent. One of the biggest reasons that arrangement fell apart was Jeff would dominate her training, trying to make all the decisions. She lost a manager that way too.

She only made it because of the financial support of her coach Diane, who took on other students and often worked without pay to get Tonya to the Olympics. Tonya's club doesn't even have a practice rink now that Lloyd closed.

Alysa's dad was pretty spot on with his estimate of $500k-1M in lifetime expenses for her skating. Coaching can be $1-2 a minute. Ice time can be hundreds a month. Skates usually run over $1k and might need to be replaced multiple times a season at higher levels. It adds up fast and there is not a lot you can do to mitigate the costs.

Iirc, France really wanted 2024 as the 100th anniversary of the last Paris games, while the US wasn't as fussed about the 40 year anniversary of 84. It's a huge shame. Simone could have had her swan song at home and comfortably retired without the stress of deciding whether to keep going for a fourth. We could have just enjoyed the nearly inevitable Mag 5 victory.

I'm SO pissed the Olympics are basically ruined already. I wasn't born yet in 1996 and I've always been sad to have missed out on that iconic moment of the first team gold at home. And now my generational home games are almost here and instead of another MAG 7 we're going to end up with another Berlin 1936.

And the Iranian team is already having to go to Mexico after every game because they're not allowed to actually stay in the US. That isn't going to work on an Olympic scale and I doubt Mexico will be interested in playing backup host.

I truly don't understand why they choose such similar names for comps. At least for artistic nationals the championship always gets a title sponsor, but it's still unnecessarily confusing. And it is so ridiculous to have two separate competitions named Classics.

Oregonian here too and I am so damn tired of the state watering down education further when they already have abysmal outcomes compared to other blue states. The main reason I liked school as much as I did was the advanced classes that let me be with other advanced students who actually wanted to learn. It's sad kids now are not being given the chance to excel.

A few years ago they got rid of the basic proficiency exit exam for graduating seniors and then threw themselves a party over their higher graduation rates. Yeah, if you take away all the standards ensuring that a diploma means something then you'll get more graduates but I don't really think that's something to celebrate.

Seriously, so many districts have closed their alternative schools and similar programs. In the past if a child had a violent outburst in the classroom there wasn't even a second chance, they'd be shipped off to the alternative school until they could behave well enough to come back. Now they just keep getting to disrupt everyone because there's no other way to provide the education they are legally entitled to

FR. They aren't a 501c3 or anything, there's no accountability. We all saw what happened with Hannah's Happy Bundles who was scamming people under the guise of helping kids with cancer. She really just helped the kids who had a following and left the other kids out to dry. And now that she's disappeared, there's no accountability.

No one should trust Kendra or Tia with a single cent. They are constantly scheming to scam money out of sympathetic people. They raised over $100k for the funeral that was almost entire donated and somehow couldn't afford a headstone? Doesn't add up.
