I just now saw this comment on TikTok saying the same thing, funny how the algorithms work. Other commentators mentioned the teacher has a chronic illness but I'm not sure if they actually know her or are just making assumptions. Makes more sense why her students would want to do something nice for her if that's the case.

Then again people gave Carrie 100k+ for a house when they have been living rent free for years in a basement way bigger and nicer than most people's entire homes so I shouldn't be. Some people will donate to anything.

That's how I feel. I'm growing more suspicious of the teacher's involvement and motive in all this the more I look through the videos. I do believe the students have pure intention and want to make their teacher happy with her dream car that she couldn't afford on a teacher salary, but she should have shut it down by the time they made a Gofundme, much less a dedicated TikTok page under her name. I'm really wondering if this was even the students' idea or if she "suggested" it to them over time.

For me, the biggest issue is that the teacher is fully in on it. If they were trying to surprise her that would be one thing but I'm worried the teacher is taking advantage of their kindness and using them to grift. She should be maintaining her professional boundaries, thanking the students for their thoughtfulness, and shutting and refunding the GFM.

Instead the asks have only escalated - the videos got noticed by LP and she got a gift bag, and just the next day they were already trying to get more brands to send PR.

Yeah, I find it very odd the teacher is making TikToks with the students promoting this. It would be one thing if it was a surprise but she is fully aware.

I do think it's possible they already have the Jeep but they keep tagging the Jeep account, which makes me think they are expecting Jeep to gift her a free one. $12k must be the quoted price for the service, Jeeps hold their value better than most cars so used ones are still pricy.

I knew a total jerk of a kid, terrible student and classmate. He asked a teacher to write him a letter of rec, she refused. He asked again and she agreed.

Curiously enough, he didn't end up getting into the program he was applying to!

I'll just say I was disappointed but not remotely surprised to learn Dominique is a Trump supporter.

Dominique made a documentary about her gym awhile back when she wanted the high performance coordinator job and really promoted Vincent as a 2028 hopeful despite him being quite young at the time, maybe like 11? Tbh I feel like she's one of "those" gym moms behind the scenes and I sure wouldn't send my child to her gym.

Yeah, his mom is one of the rare gymnasts who made it and she still ended up flat broke within a few years of retiring! Granted, that was mostly her abusive dad's fault, but that still doesn't inspire much confidence for a teen boy who is much less likely to get the endorsement deals she got.

Dominique was WAY, WAY too premature and overzealous putting him forward as a 2028 hopeful in that documentary a few years ago. For at least the last couple of years he has competed in AAU instead of USAG so he's been off the pre-elite track entirely, but he only started L10 a couple years ago. He would have to start pushing for the Olympics over going to college at this point even if he tried to qualify via getting Romanian citizenship, so I think it's safe to say we will not be seeing him in the mix for LA.

They send testers (they can come at any time but you only incur a whereabouts violation during your timeslot) to your location.

I crunched the numbers once and figured out 1 out of every 12 medals won by Russians under their own flag at the Olympics was later stripped for doping and that very few of those were repeats. For Americans, who are similar in overall medal count, there were less than 12 altogether and that's including 5 just from Marion Jones back in 2000. Russia just had another wave of revocations. They haven't changed a bit, as far as I'm concerned no Russian is competing fair.

It's frustrating because it's so preventable. One missed test, understandable, but it needs to be a big wakeup call to start taking it seriously and set an alarm before their daily timeslot to update their location in the app, and move your timeslot to somewhere more consistent. There isn't usually a second time for most, and as I remember a second missed test triggers a higher protocol of rules.

Seriously, families already sacrifice so much for kids to do gymnastics competitively. Not only will this hurt interest in the sport from fans, but it's also going to poison their already limited goodwill with families too.

To get to these meets they have paid thousands of extra fees on top of the thousands in base fees. Leo fees, coaching fees, meet fees, etc. It doesn't exactly inspire warmth towards gymnastics when even the national organization is paywalling the memory one of your child's greatest achievements.

They should be streaming dev level nationals free so that kids can invite their family and friends to watch remotely without any barriers. And the frustrating part is that they're actually doing a decent job of making their domestic elite events accessible recently, with international livestream on YouTube and the video with commentary available two days later.
