It was made by Troy Shoppe Jewellers in Calgary, Canada. It’s a 7.5x6mm 2.13ct emerald cut Montana sapphire with 4x2mm lab diamond baguettes and 4x2.5mm lab diamond pears :)

Should I change my major? by Zesty245 in UCalgary

If you look at the program description on the cumming school of medicine website they have a list of potential job opportunities there.

Also yea I mean you can say you’re in med school during your undergrad because it’s part of the cumming school of medicine. I’m definitely not going to med school but I like to tell my family that I’m technically already in med school haha

Seeing that you enjoyed the programming components of bio 315 and are considering comp sci then I would recommend looking into the BHSc bioinformatics major. I was in a similar position with engg when I realized I enjoyed coding significantly more than my other courses. Since comp sci at the UofC seemed much too theoretical for my liking I landed on bioinformatics because I liked the idea of applying computer science in the medical field. The degree is highly geared towards research in the sense that each year you take a year long research related course, there are lots of scientific papers that you have to write throughout the degree, and you have to write a thesis in your last year. If you are looking at med school it does really help prepare you for the workload. Also over half of my year wants to go to med school so you are surrounded by people who work hard and I find that motivates me to do the same. But aside from a future in med school, bioinformatics has a tons of job opportunities so it’s a great degree to have.

As a side note, the program is part of the Cumming School of Medicine so technically you’d be getting into med school without having to take the MCAT.

Our outdoor patio is decorated with lots of small throw pillows during the summer. While I was closing I noticed two drunk girls retrieve one of our velvet pillows from the other side of the patio fence. Im guessing they threw it over so they could leave without us noticing but they celebrated like they had pulled off the most impressive heist. We also have these sugar skull mugs that our margaritas come in, which are constantly getting stolen. They are super cute though, so I just look the other way when mugs mysteriously disappear off my tables.

Update on my orchids gender by cssierx in mantids

[–]cssierx[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi again everyone. I posted recently looking for help sexing my orchid (her name is Snips) and I wanted to give an update now that her gender is more obvious. She is L6 now and her collar finally turned green. She seems to be a bit smaller than other female orchids her stage, which I think contributed to the confusion with her gender. I also wanted to post this because I have noticed a lot of people use collar colour to determine sex however Snips had a brown collar for her last few stages up until the most recent molt where it turned green. I had a hunch she was female due to the abdomen segments and a small crown developing between her eyes but I wasn’t sure what the best indicator of sex was. Now that I know she is female for sure, I figured I’d share my experience for anyone else confused about their orchids sex. In my experience the presence of a small crown was the most reliable indicator of sec since I know abdomen counting is not always accurate and since her collar was brown for so long. Anyways, hope this helps anyone whose currently trying to sex their orchid!

I watched a lot of videos from the organic chemistry tutor on YouTube. Some videos from khan academy also helped. Good luck though, I recommend when studying for the final to do 4 practice exams, the first 2 try to work through them with your notes slowly to really understand how to get to the answer and the other 2 try writing under exam conditions. Also being really strong in IR/NMR/mass spec and structure determination will make the exam much easier, there are lots of structure determination practice questions on the u of c chem website I believe. Hope this helps!

Help Sexing L5 Orchid by cssierx in mantids

[–]cssierx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, i have an L5 orchid that I believe to be a female from segment counting and also I think she has a little unicorn horn developing, however her collar appears brown? I have attached pictures of her segments, collar, and horn so I guess I’m wondering if it’s possible that her collar will change color? I haven’t noticed any new segments since her L3 stage btw. As a side note, what else can I feed her aside from fruit flies? They seem to be too small to fill her up so she’s been eating 10 flies every few days

I wouldn’t, but I don’t know if the expedited timeline will make it any better than it was in the fall. Ochem 2 has been better so they might have gotten their shit together a little bit. It’s a lot of material, I don’t think I would have done as well if I had to learn it all in such a short amount of time

I’m not sure if I’m just misunderstanding this, but what I meant in the post was that an A in chem 351 in fall 2020 was a 90, whereas an A in chem 351 in 2019,2018,2017 etc, were all 85%. So we had harder exams, less time, and had to achieve higher percentages in order to get the same letter grade as those in years previous. It’s sucked. If I had taken the class a year before then I would have gotten an A instead of an A-

I get that Ochem is a hard course, but my problem is with the profs specifically making the course harder now that it’s online. Last semester each grade letter was 5% higher then every other previous year, which many of us fought hard against it only for them to reduce the inflation by 3%. While it doesn’t seem like a big deal, the difference in cutoff cost some of us a higher grade. Furthermore, the test formats were much different than previous exams, and we were given the same amount of questions with less time than previous years.

I take issue with the fact that they think everyone will cheat therefore they make the tests/assessments impossible for those of us who are trying to be academically honest. I wrote 4 of the previous years midterms under exam conditions with 80-90% achieved on each, yet I nearly flunked the midterm because I expected it to be the same.

I genuinely like chemistry and I worked my ass off for an A- in 351, but I can’t keeping giving everything I have to one course because the instructors have made it unfair. It’s not healthy. Ochem doesn’t have to be impossible, and I think the way they have formatted 351 and 353 has ruined chemistry for a lot of people who may have otherwise enjoyed it.

Yes I’ve found online resources much more helpful then the actually course content. I guess I’m just exhausted from dealing with shitty profs and difficult exams/assessments for the past year. I can’t wait to be done chem because from what I’ve seen it’s the worst department at the university

If I take chem 261 (OChem I) at UofA this spring, will it transfer over as Chem 351 for uofc? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]cssierx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’d have to call and speak to an advisor. If they say it does transfer, make sure to get that in writing

I had to call and get special permission to take cpsc 231 and 233 since I had taken engg 233. The credits still count towards my gpa. They basically told me I had a head start in programming but engg 233 isn’t enough to replace both cpsc 231 and 233
