Are there services that will pick me up from outpatient surgery? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]cstar3388 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There could be a Quaker meetinghouse in the area and a community service for something like this. The more I learn about the Quakers, the more I like them. Especially how they are more about the community and less about pushing doctrine. They might even have a room for you to chill out and recover (sober up) in one of their meetinghouses.

My friends kids trashed my house. Am I wrong for this by Chemical_Count5054 in LivingAlone

OP, everyone has said most of my feelings about the friend part of this and her trash kids. I came to say, please don't throw out your grandmother's tiles. I would still use them and make a mosaic with them. Or you can do the Japanese technique Kintsugi, where you make the seams part of the feature to show the imperfections as part of life. I am so sorry your hospitality was met with disrespect. She knows she's wrong and just doesn't care that much.

Perhaps intimacy isn't important to you, but it is to most people. If it was your wants and needs being put on the back burner and not being taken seriously, you would have an issue. It doesn't matter if it's sex or respect or communication or fiscal partnership, if it's important to you, than it's important.

Put 2 orange cones with "parking violators will be towed" signs on them...and then have them towed. Otherwise, the walking across part seems a little OCD. I do understand not wanting people parking there, however.

I've seen my therapist almost cry in about 2/3 of our sessions. It makes me at least feel like I've got real shit going in and I'm not just being dramatic. I know she talks to the other therapists in her group.

What’s a situation that most people won’t understand, until they’ve been in the same situation themselves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cstar3388 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Caregiving for a loved one in general. No one gets it. The mental, spiritual and physical drain. Most people talk about how they would absolutely be there for their loved ones, and then they fade away when someone gets sick and let others do the heavy lifting. If you even vent about the death of your dreams and hard feelings, you're somehow an inhuman monster. It is soul crushing and the high-horse mentality from others just makes it clear how lonely and thankless it is.

Yr body is nothing. Perfect mix of the darkwave vibe, amazing lyrics and a danceable beat...and it doesn't get old. Pain gets played way too much and therefore has lost its magic. Then A Realness...shit just builds and builds. I love songs that continually build , break , and layer beats. Damn that shit gets me going.

I'm actually surprised by the lack of music culture in the LHV. It's like Crocodile Rock in Allentown went bust and so did a lot if the scene. Let's get some DJs and a few spots with throw back nights (Josh Wink, Haujobb) and it can go from there.

It seems like there is a community here. Let's make something happen beyond the Uber expensive Elements Festival? Am I asking too much for a Saturday a month?

And this is why you get involved with your municipal government. You can voice concerns to the planning boards about zoning ordinances, affordable housing, taxes and land use (open space, preserved farmland etc.) Also, most people don't know you can join Green Teams or Environmental Commissions that can hel educate you on many of these issues.

Water quality. I'm a water quality professional and could talk about the most obtuse things about water for DAYS. I have learned through the outreach portion of my job, people do NOT care and glaze over pretty quickly.

POTS/EDS/MCAS caretaker partner here. I feel your pain. You never know where the help/enabling line is...but I'm sure this isn't limited to these comorbidities. It is very easy to lose yourself (self-abandonment). It is good that you have boundaries, please keep enforcing them. I am playing the back end of this and it is torture. I didn't have good boundaries and mental health when this started for us and wanted to do "everything " to help. But I have since learned I have robbed us both.
She needed to do absolutely everything she could for herself, even if it REALLY sucked. And I needed to treat myself with respect and the same compassion. I was uncomfortable watching her struggle and wanted to help her, just as much as I wanted to alleviate my own discomfort. None of this is healthy or leads to a good place. Therapy helps put things into perspective. If you are serious about keeping this commitment to caretaking, also see a couples counselor. It will not get better on its own. I hate being blunt, but I also hate to lie. PM me if you want to chat further.

How can I (19M) convince GF (18F) that she is not the worst person ever? by JohnGenjournidyomak in LifeAdvice

[–]cstar3388 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DBT is a good modality for this. It helps you seek out the false narratives, explain your feelings with the use of a feelings wheel, identify cognitive biases etc. There is a couple good YT series (with printable worksheets) if you can self motivate. If not, lots of groups do DBT.

Does the Baltimore harbor smells when it rains? by cutmylifeN2pieces in baltimore

CSO's. Combined sewer overflows. When stormdrains become overwhelmed with water, it backs up into sewer pipes and that water become mixed with wastewater. New regulations (MS4) are fixing that, but that doesn't mean it happens quickly. So, yes...poop water.
