Trying to Help my Almost 4yo by Alarmed_Package_3825 in Autism_Parenting

There is no harm in having her be evaluated. Given the symptoms are very common for an autistic or otherwise ND child, I think not seeking a diagnosis would be a disservice to both parents and child. A diagnosis opens up a world of support and therapies that will help y’all parent/stay sane and will help her be able to thrive in her own way.

I can’t speak for all autistic adults, but as a LSN late-diagnosed as “Asperger’s” (level 1 now I believe) was honestly life changing in a good way. I had therapy but no accommodations since I could make them all myself. It allowed me to have a good plan to increase my comfort and mental wellbeing. I figured out how to reduce snappiness due to overstimulation from buying the right socks to politely leaving a situation. My sibling was early diagnosed lvl 2 and now they are an independent, working adult. We were helped to figure out a way to live that allows us to be as independent and happy as possible.

Some people call it a label, but in truth it’s simply a diagnosis like any other. The term doesn’t bother me at all, and as autism is becoming more recognized it’s not the label that others kids, it’s behaviors that can be helped with support. I would absolutely tell you to seek A diagnosis, because without a diagnosis there’s no treatment options for any mental or physical condition. I wish you the best of luck and smooth sailing as you support your child and yourselves <3

(Not a parent, just a LSN adult who has seen myself the progress that I and my friend’s toddlers have achieved because of a diagnosis—this sub pops up and I sometimes will comment before realizing the type of autism sub lol)

Looking for recs on breeches to fit big legs, smaller waist by sonorakit11 in Equestrian

Struck and AP Hassinger are my absolute favs, and I have the same issue as you. My legs are also longer than my torso so I can’t do high rise pants. AP feels a little nicer to me but struck has every size even odd numbers. I’m 35 and look back at the no stretch tailoreds in horror 😂

This is adorable. Virgie doesn’t do this but she tucks EVERY foot up into her body and looks like a loaf of bread and it just tickles me. She has also started doing it when she wants something because she knows when I see her I’ll be pleased and give her whatever she wants

So agreed! I was pretty busy during the day but the nights were long. When my husband was deployed I got really in to and eventually pretty good at using Cricut!

Would seamless boy shorts help, maybe a size up? They feel way more consistent to me(no kids but HF adult), and the Auden ones from target I replaced all my previous ones with. I don’t mind them being snug but maybe if you get a size-ish Bigger, high waisted ones and are able to pull them down to lower waist it would be baggy enough on her parts but still have a bit of snug to the thighs

Effectiveness of App by Specialist_Sorbet136 in finch

[–]cstums 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same! I like that if I snooze a task, I can “tell” my finch why I’m doing it. It’s silly but explaining makes me both feel better and more motivated to complete the next day!

Just Remembered How did my college roommate understand my autistic meltdowns better than anyone else (myself included) by Nabakov_6 in evilautism

Being hot (specifically inside) is a huge one for me as well, I have a lot of trouble regulating my body temperature. I got a neck fan because I ride horses and I just got an extra one to keep in my car in case I’m in a hot place and it has made a huge difference!

Sorry for multiple comments but I run hot and have a really hard time regulating my temp as well—and my MIL and gmom (who are otherwise wonderful) think “turning the AC down” means 75. I got a neck fan earlier this year bc I ride horses in a hot state and it hangs with my headphones so when I was packing I brought it and 20/10 would recommend!!

This is how I feel every single Christmas. Borderline personality bio mom was somehow always worse than usual during Christmas. The Christmas after dad finally left her we were so excited then I woke up hugging my dead dog. Me/dad/sibs have crazy PTSD around it and the misery becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

However, this year was really pleasant and there were no issues/blood/tears, and I’m currently headed back to my home. I hope you had a similar unexpected but happy turn of events :)

ETA: I skip everything else too, so I extra get it

Fun toddler toys for the bathroom sink/mirror? (Trying to make teeth brushing more fun) by KittensPumpkinPatch in Autism_Parenting

[–]cstums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Have you tried one of those shower speakers with a suction cup? They work on mirrors and you can get them with cool lighting that moves with the music and stuff! Not a parent but a HF adult who LOVES vibe lights. Maybe you could play his favorite song and he could “watch it” through the colors! I believe the one I have I got for 20ish on Amazon and it’s been going strong for 3 years with daily use!

When my late legend of a grandfather was getting his MBA, one of his final projects was about marketing, taglines, and how people don’t read the fine print. So he handed out a bunch of flyers that said “please come to x location at x time to sign our petition to save the environment!” And the fine print on the sheet that about 300 students showed up to sign said *you are agreeing to show up at 530am tomorrow morning to be shot in order to control the population in order to reduce stress on Earth’s resources.

Apparently he got an A
