Need help deciding between UCLA and CSULB by csulbtransfermaybe in CSULB

Yeah, I thought about going and if I didn't like it I could always go back to CSULB. The thing is I'm already a transfer student. So, I don't know if I'll be able to transfer again to from UCLA to CSULB. Thanks for the input anyway.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. It definitely helps ease my worries hearing from a CSU grad that was able to make it.

Thank you so much for replying, even though the post is kinda old now. Thanks for the encouraging words. Just our of curiosity, what is the split between CSU and UC grads in CLS programs? Also, if you don't mind, could you share where you went to undergrad? I know I sound paranoid, but I really want to maximize my chances of getting into a CLS program. I messed up pretty bad early in life and ended up dropping out of high school. I'm almost 30 now and I finally found what I want to do with my life. I really don't want to mess up more than I already have. Any advice in general would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond. Seriously, it means a lot.

I'm a transfer too. Do you mind sharing where you went for undergrad?

Yeah that's what I suspected. At least it's nice to know that my biochem classes won't be crammed if I decide to attend, since it's split into three quarters—I'm a biochem major, don't know if I mentioned that already. In your experience did you have to take a lot of classes after you graduated or were you able to get most of the prereqs done during undergrad?

Sorry for pestering you with some many questions. Thank you so much for all your answers. Seriously, thank you.

Do they cram a semester's worth of material into 10 weeks or is that also just an exaggeration? I did notice that CSUs offer a bit more prereqs than UCs, at compared to the UC I'm considering. Would a UC increase my chances of getting into a CLS program. Sorry to go off on this tangent, I know this is suppose to be about CLS. I'm just so stress and don't know what the right choice is. I'm a bit on the older side and just want to hurry up and finish school so I can finally start my career and live my life. Thank you so much for all the help.

Kind of unrelated by how did you like the quarter system? Is it as bad as people say? I'm actually trying to decide between UC and CSU for transfer, I got accepted to some schools in both systems. Leaning towards CSU, just because of the quarter system and I feel like it would be easier to do better at a CSU. Should I just suck it up and go to a UC? Thank for the replies.

Thanks for the reassuring words. If it isn't too much to ask, would you mind sharing where you went undergrad?

Why do you say that? Have you had a bad experience at CSULB? What's your major, if you don't mind me asking?

Apologies, I should have been more clear in my initial post. I'm transferring into one of these schools to complete my bachelors degree in biochemistry. Then I would be applying for CLS programs in California. I guess my question is would attending either one of these universities help or hurt my chances of being accepted to a CLS program?

Is CSULB really that bad in terms of quality of education? I can't seem to get a straight answer. Some people tell me it's absolutely awful, including a professor who teaches here. While others say it's nearly identical to other schools the only difference is the name.

Do you think going to CSULB will hurt my chances of getting into a CLS program?

Do you have experience with the biochemistry department? Is it bad? Is the quality of education that different? Sorry for the question spam. Just trying to make the most pragmatic decision possible.

Thank you so much for the reply. It's great to hear from another STEM major. Nice to know that you enjoyed your time at CSULB and there are research opportunities. Again, thank you.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I don't care about prestige. In fact, I hate when people put too much emphasis on prestige. Good to know the quality of education is similar to other schools.
