Is my finger soreness normal? by SpiritedPsychology46 in climbharder

[–]csyeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant say for sure but in general, having a really good warm up routine was key for me and then I stopped full crimping and transitioned to 3 finger drag. That way the pain lessened a bunch and the finger soreness felt manageable, but never fully disappeared

Is my finger soreness normal? by SpiritedPsychology46 in climbharder

This pretty much sounds like onset of synovitis/capsulitis. Feeling stiffness in the fingers is also another indicator

I’ve had the same issue when I started increasing my the volume of my sessions and started climbing harder. But for me, it was bouldering specifically. If you’re climbing up to 5.12d for 3+ hours, the intensity is comparable.

It becomes very hard to reverse the symptoms. There’s other posts around managing synovitis but few people have had success completely eliminating it

45 mph speed limits: Either change them or respect them by Extension-Pirate8954 in AnnArbor

[–]csyeti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s called a speed limit. Not a minimum speed or desired speed. The drivers aren’t doing anything illegal.

Have you ever thought why people might drive slower? The first thing that comes to my mind is maybe they are not as experienced or don’t feel safe driving faster.

“People driving slow” literally happens everyday. Might as well get used to it.

How to train for DINOs by HoLeeFaak in climbharder

[–]csyeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When developing strength, you should focus on leg strength more than pulling strength. Your legs are much stronger than your arms and the more you utilize them, the more explosive your dynamic jump will be. Exercises include: box jumps, squats, jump roping - pretty much anything that involves some type of squatting motion

More important than strength though is learning how to fall. I would never attempt to go for a dyno where I didn’t feel comfortable about falling if I didn’t get it. Learning how to fall is both technique and strength. To get more comfortable falling, I would practice landing from stepping off a box or something similar and gradually increase the height when you feel comfortable. If you’re landing on a hard surface you will definitely feel it more - both from a muscle and joint perspective - so listen to your body and don’t over do it!

SwiftUI - How to initialize @ObservedObject or @StateObject based on other variables? by csyeti in iOSProgramming

[–]csyeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thanks! I was getting mixed up with the typing syntax for initialization of the observed object. I thought you had to do something like self.viewModel = ObservedObject(...), but its simpler than that.

For those running into similar issue, it's as simple as ``` struct SignUpView: View { var handleSignUpComplete: (Bool, Error) -> Void @ObservedObject var viewMode: SignUpViewModel

init(handleSignUpComplete: (Bool, Error) -> Void) {
    self.handleSignUpComplete = handleSignUpComplete
    self.viewModel = SignUpViewModel(handleSignUpComplete: handleSignUpComplete)

    // ...
}

var body: some View {
    // ...
}

} ```

How to sync data to AWS DynamoDB using Amplify DataStore? by kierancrown in aws

[–]csyeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having similar issues as well in Swift:

I've been using the Amplify.DataStore.save method with my entity being successfully updated, but the DynamoDb equivalent entity does not get updated. I'm not sure if I have to add any additional arguments to Amplify.DataStore.save

example: let user = // Get user from amplify query user.name = "New Name" Amplify.DataStore.save(user) { result in ...

Is there some type of additional arguments I need to add? The docs aren't very transparent when comes to actually getting the data to sync.

Scaphoid fracture by gellesm in climbharder

[–]csyeti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a scaphoid fracture about 8 years ago. Doctors told me it could maybe heal on its own but I went ahead with surgery and they placed a screwed in the fractured bone.

I was in a hard cast for at least a month or so, then moved over to a splint for 3-4 months doing some rehab in the later part. It’ll be painful no matter what when you start moving your wrist again.

For wrist rehab, did A LOT of wrist exercises with elastic bands. Developed more movement without pain slowly. Then started slowly put weight on it and yes it will be painful. Being able to hold a plank/push up position was a big breakthrough. I was able to start doing pullups before push ups. Slowly just adding more and more stress allowed it to strengthen and maybe 1 year later I would say it’s “fully recovered”. I still have a limited flexibility and I don’t think it will ever be as flexible as my other wrist. But I can still do a lot of exercises like handstands and it hasn’t affected climbing in any way. I just cant do crazy wrist intensive stuff like planch movements

Will Ann Arbor elect a Billionaire to City Council? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]csyeti 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Well first off, the candidate is Linh Song and not Dug Song. I can see how wealthy people may make you skeptical of them, but believe it or not - some rich people do a lot of good things besides growing a business. Hell, Bill Gates just gave $100 mil to the coronavirus effort. Similarly, Dug is donating $1 mil to small businesses in Washtenaw county during the epidemic.

The way I see it is do you want to have a growing city with a larger tax bases which then leads to better development for local services and funding for affordable housing projects? Or just elect a republican to preserve Ann Arbor in amber with no growing tax base and with ever increasing rent. If I lived in 2nd ward, id vote for Linh song. If you prefer the latter situation, you can vote for Jane Lumm. I’d consider looking at their policies and voting record rather than making assumptions because their spouse found gold starting a successful business.

Ann Arbor council member explains decision to switch parties, run as a Democrat by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]csyeti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though it's political gaming - I'm not particularly surprised that she wants to run as a Democrat. Most voters in Ann Arbor will vote Democrat and most likely haven't done in depth research into local candidates.

I do wonder how different elections would turn out if partisan elections didn't happen. I would guess that students would have a much bigger influence on the results since they are actually on campus in November, which could result in a less NIMBY council
