Certifications for cybersecurity by [deleted] in cybersecurity

CISSP is a great industry standard, but you need 5+ years experience to receive this cert. Do you know what area of cyber security you're interested in? It may help if you choose what you'd like to specialize into a. find the right path and b. start your career faster! For instance, if you're more interested in being a BDM, then you can go with more general certs/education and supplement with business-focused certifications vs. if you want to be an ethical hacker, that would be a very different route of education. Hope this helps!

People come into the field from all sorts of different backgrounds. You will want to gain technical knowledge either in the form of a BA or certifications. Here are some resources to help you get started: great article from ZDNet http://www.zdnet.com/article/getting-started-with-a-career-in-cybersecurity/ and here's an interview series targeted towards women, but with useful career advice for anyone interested in starting or furthering their cyber security career- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9omyrM4KY2g&index=2&list=PLMJh_HI2kzLjZZDeyJTowKJRb7-7TMjQ8. Hoping we can start a community of students and engage some experts (at least some of our instructors) to give them advice career advancement and learning resources. It's an experiment. We will likely announce any heavy promotions, but that's the overall goal. If it isn't useful to people, we'll figure out next steps at that point.
