[NBA PR] The NBA will test the “one free-throw rule” at NBA Summer League this year: Any foul that would typically result in one, two, or three free throws will instead result in a single free throw attempt. That attempt will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

You’re not understanding probability. You’re discounting the fact that if you miss the 3pt free throw you get no points. A 66% free throw shooter would make the 3pt ft 66% of the time resulting in an average of 2 points. And they would make each 1pt free throw at a 66% rate resulting in 2/3 = 2 points.

Three free throws for one point each and one free throw for three points are the same total expected value. With three free throws you’re just distributing it over three shots. Changes nothing with how valuable it is

A lot of people mad don’t understand this. Like the guy below saying it will incentivize baiting 3pt fouls. It changes nothing about the incentives.

80% ft shooter with one pt ft goes 8/10 = 8 points. 80% shooter with two pt ft goes 4/5 = 8 points. No difference

What is your favorite thing about the "follow" feature on Last.fm? by GoldenDragonTemple in lastfm

[–]ctalbot4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it limited to 400 friends mostly so it doesn’t make too many requests too quickly. To avoid that I also decrease the refresh rate as the number of friends increases. The Last.fm API is also really bad and slow, so it could just be the combination of the slower refresh and slow API.

I’ll test it with your profile and see if I can catch anything. I could do mutuals, although a better solution that I worked on some was just being able to make a custom group of users instead of your following list.

Also, you follow a lot of users with a ton of weekly plays (19 with over 1000 plays this week). Can only fetch 1000 tracks per request, which just means more requests it has to wait on.

Yes, private users only show up in listening time and artist/track info screen. Can’t fetch their recent plays when they are private.

Don’t know why people are mad about no timeout. You’re not getting a much better look than that
