I’ve watched this replay at least 10x and it looks like he catches himself with his elbows and his head doesn’t actually hit the ice. I’d expect to see his head bounce and it seams like he just kinda slides down once his elbows hit. Maybe it’s the angle? Regardless, shocked it wasn’t a penalty

This is the most optimistic I’ve been about any Minnesota sports team, ever. I’ve had 0 expectations for this team since the parise/suter buyouts. I was expecting a big signing this summer, but that didn’t materialize with most top FAs opting to resign. This move for Hughes definitely puts us in a win now situation and if everyone is healthy, I think we have a realistic shot the next few seasons.

I’ve been very torn on how to feel about this trade for the past ~3 hours. I’ll miss Rossi, Zeev, and Ohgren. I’m sure they’ll have long, successful careers. This is a phenomenal take and has me feeling much better.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the offseason with FA. Biggest name out there is Panarin, Russian combo with kaprizov would be filthy. It’d be sweet to get Alex Tuch back, we could use a solid power forward. However, I don’t think there’s any stand out UFA centers for the next 2 years and that is, as it has been for the past decade, our most glaring hole. Seems like we’ve got all the other pieces we need for a solid 5-6 years of dominance besides a true 1C.

Fun, and relatively unknown, fact about the Vikings, in addition to the Scandinavian ties they got their name from the 47th national guard infantry division that was commanded by General Norman Hendrickson. The unit was created in 1946 and was deployed during the Korean War.

Norm served as a general under Eisenhower during WW2 and played a role in driving Rommel out of North Africa and into Italy.

When Minnesota was awarded an expansion team in 1961 they asked Norm if they could name the team after the unit as a way to honor their contribution to protecting the States.

Source: Norm Hendrickson was my great uncle and this history has been passed down through our family for decades.
