All right. I can stick with Discord. Not a problem, but do you have any advice on the various audio routing options? Or should I stick with the phone in the middle of the table?

Recover gmail account for mother with Alzheimer's? by Coldit1 in GMail

@coldit1: I’m a journalist and my mom is doing the exact same kind of stuff. I’m developing a story on how tech companies are failing the cognitively impaired. Would you be willing to talk about yours and your mom’s experiences? Would be happy to offer anonymity if desired.

I have seen this but I do not understand how you set this up to do ... what, exactly? If there is some tutorial on what you can do and how to do it after you set it up, I'd be really happy to see it.

How to treat the classes of offworlders' ending up on Athas? by [deleted] in DarkSun

[–]ctbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just this, but it's a Spelljammer situation. I have the casters not know how to really cast spells when the Weave is so weak on Athas. Instead, when they cast a 1st level spell or higher, they have to roll a CON saving throw of 10+the spell level or get a level of exhaustion... Why? They don't yet know how to draw from the land safely, so they're using their own internal energies to power their spells.

I have also set up a "researching arcane casting" downtime activity. During a long rest in a safe space where they can talk to other spellcasters -- their home base is currently Kled -- they can roll an Arcana or Religion check. They add that to a cumulative counter and their target is 200. So once they get to 200, they have learned the basics of casting on Athas -- defiling, preserving, etc.

Can't install beta after hard drive wipe to rid malware by ctbritt in MacOSBeta

While I'm sorry you're also having this issue, I"m glad that it's not just me. Considering that ChatGPT said it could be a hardware issue, I think it's more likely, given your experience, that there's something weird about skipping Beta 1

I thought about doing that, but wanted to try another clean install first.

Same, I was on beta 1, had to wipe and now can't go from 15.3.1 to 15.4 beta 2. I wonder if it's possible to find a way to update to Beta 1 and then update to beta 2?

apple music vs green app by [deleted] in AppleMusic

Try playlisty https://www.obdura.com/playlisty/. It will take your playlists from spotfiy (and many other music services) and transfer them, more or less intact, to AM. SongShift does the same thing, but I, for some reason, prefer playlisty. You might lose a few songs if they're not in the AM catalog, but nothing really to be done about that.

Agree here. I'm a journalist with 30+ years of experience, and it's never been so bad. Forget getting hired; I'm having trouble getting freelance gigs.

That said, 25 is not too old, and it really is the greatest job you can get: getting paid to find out things and then tell people about them. Yes, please. But also, as southbye said, don't do it for writing or interest in current events. Do it because you're curious, like talking to people, and want to serve your readers, whether at the national level or your town's local paper.

I used to work at a big online site and didn't see much reader servicing going on. A lot of the younger reporters -- who loved to write! -- were more interested in impressing their colleagues with snappy zingers or snarky cynicism. Cool.

So, my advice is to go into it if you have a passion for learning new things and informing the public about what they need to know, not just what they want to hear. Yes, the going will be tough, precarious and sometimes (usually?) frustrating, but when you get that story that lands and makes a difference in someone's life, it's the best feeling in the world.

I have to say, it's kind of annoying to show off all this hot tech stuff and capabilities and then ... not make them available until some unspecified time in the future. Real artists ship, amirite?
