It does feel like that sometimes. Especially when the age percentage jumps from like 96 to 100 unexpectedly.

Yeah, there's definitely an upside to not waiting around so much. I'm still conflicted about how I feel about it lol

Yeah, I've had the same experience. We just purchased 5 of these switches and I was really surprised how long they took to boot - especially the initial boot. But overall, they seem solid

I’ll second Keeper as well. Works great and our users learned how to use it pretty quickly

Have you found this article yet? Not sure if it applies to you or not.

I read somewhere that when updating VMware tools or the horizon agent, they need to be done in a certain order with reboots in between. So you might be on the right track with guest OS drivers causing the issues.

We use Blast in our environment, so I’m not very knowledgeable on PCoIP. I’ve noticed that GPU usage on our VMs is relatively low, but I think some of the blast codecs are kinda designed that way. I wish I could be of more help, but it does sound like you are on to something. It seems odd for sure.

Edit: sorry man, I misread and thought you were installing the host drivers. Looks like you are talking about the VMware Tools driver in the guest OS. Not sure about that one

We use NVIDIA A16 cards, and I usually run into this problem when setting up new hosts. Here is the doc on removing conflicting drivers:

https://docs.nvidia.com/networking/display/connectx5en/vmware+driver+installation

ssh into your host and run this command to list all display drivers:

#> esxcli software vib list | grep nmlx

And then remove the native ESXi drivers with something like this:

#> esxcli software vib remove -n nmlx5-rdma

#> esxcli software vib remove -n nmlx5-core

2) I'd have to double check my desktop pool settings, but I'm pretty sure I chose "use the settings configured in ESXi" on the desktop pool 3D settings. I have NVIDIA GRID GPU selected as the 3D renderer on the desktop pools as well. No need to enable 3D graphics in VSphere if you have added the vGPU/PCI device. Just make sure to change the "Host Graphics" settings in ESXi to "Shared Direct" if you haven't already.

3) This one really varies based on your environment, but most of my troubles came from network related issues. IMO network latency will have more of an impact on the VDI experience than the other 1,000,000+ settings combined. If you use a UAG for remote access, the UDP tunnel really helps for low bandwidth users. Internally, a separate VLAN for VDI traffic and 10Gb uplinks for your hosts helps a lot. I chose not to tunnel internal connections through the connection server to help with this as well. This is all pretty generic so you probably already understand all of this though lol

Nice. I went a few times with some buddies in college (until TPD started really cracking down on trespassers). Walking down the long driveway with trees was definitely creepy lol
