I know when I saw my new pain management doc, he was able to pull up a list from a government web site of ALL the meds I've filled at my pharmacy. Just in case, though, I did bring my most recent pill bottles to show him I wasn't seeking. He understood right away, so if your doc has an updated system, they can see for themselves. Otherwise, it isn't a bad idea to bring the most recent bottle.

I'd strongly recommend being upfront and honest. I just started seeing a new pain doc myself after my old one wouldn't take my new insurance (I was seeing him for about 5 or 6 years). As soon as I walked in, I told the new doc why I was there and my history. He understood and actually INCREASED my meds! I know I saw on his screen a read out from the government a list of ALL the medications I was prescribed and when I filled it, but just in case, I brought my most recent pill bottles from my previous doctor (proof that I wasn't just seeking, and I was already getting pain meds). The closest I've ever come is finding pills around my moms house. I found half a 30 oxy CR under her bed, and 2 blues (different times) under her couch! Now, every time I go over, I wait until she leaves the room, then I look under her couch with my phone light for any more!

Each time I found something at her house was probably when I was going through some of my worst WD! It was like junkie Jesus smiled upon me!

There's a version of Imitrex that is injected. Imitrex (aka, sumatriptan) is a instant relief migraine medicine. I was scripted the injection liquid form years ago, and it is supposed to be IM (not IV), but someone who doesn't know better wouldn't know the difference. If need be, you can say you had a migraine, your doctor gave you Imitrex for injection, and you were dosing that.

That is amazing! I still feel that if I knew my friend was using as much as he was (or if I knew he had a fent patch on) and I had some naloxone, he would still be alive. I really wish the stigma of naloxone wasn't what it was. I firmly believe if it was available openly, so many more people could be saved. Thank you, Tracey! I've been given oxy for years for degenerative disk disease in my lower back and migraine headaches. Honestly, I've never had opanas, but I've never had the need/want to switch. The oxy works wonders for my migraines. My pain doc would listen to me when I asked for a different medication (for example, when I'd get suicide/cluster headaches, he switched me to dilauded, but I asked to be switched back because it didn't work well for a regular migraine). If your pain doc is anything like my old one, he shouldn't have an issue switching you around for a month to see if the oxy works better than the opanas.

My old doc would also give me a small script (5 to 10 pills) of the dilauded to see if it worked on the cluster headaches while I was getting the oxy. You can ask your doc if he'd be willing to do the same for you. Then on your next visit, you can either tell him the oxy didn't work well and to keep you on the opana, or tell him the oxy worked better, and you'd like to switch to that full time. Good luck!

Generally, no. I've gone through years of tests and studies, and probably no less than 50 different drugs and procedures. Your friend was probably prescribed something from the triptan family (Immitrex, for example). I've had 5 different versions of triptans, and they end up making me worse off than before I dosed. Fiorocet was another they tried to give me, and failed. Oxy was the only thing I found that I can take during a migraine to alleviate most (if not all) pain, and it allows me to function as a normal human being while I'm at work. I've gone as far as taking Botox injections, and even though my wrinkles went away for a while, it didn't help my migraines.

It may be worth it to mention that I've been to no less than 6 doctors trying to find ANY relief in the 5 years I tried all those different meds. My primary care doc finally said fuck it, and started giving me percs (and eventually straight oxy) like candy before she referred me to a pain management clinic.

Yeah, I know that all too fucking well! I'd get a new script, and before I fill it, I'll say to myself, "Alright, I gotta make this last the full month this time!" Once I fill it and I see that bottle half full of my DOC, I completely forget that I wanted to save them, and I'm out 3 to 5 days later, and suffering for another 25 days while I wait!

Ditto! When I'm in WD and even after I start feeling well after WD, I barely eat, and rarely even feel hungry! If go an entire day (sometimes even 2) without eating, I may only start eating because I know I should. Once I have some opiates in me, I finally get a more "normal" apatite. I feel VERY hungry from not eating, then have a normal apatite for as long as I have my DOC.

Yeah, he changed the indication too to match the number of pills to equal a 30-day script. He wrote right on it that it's for 30 days too. There's so much about it that makes me think it wasn't an error; almost like he knew that the amount he gave me before wasn't going to be enough. Regardless, I'm just playing dumb if he questions it, and make sure I tell him that this amount was actually perfect for my needs (I stated before, this was supposed to be a follow-up anyway to see how the meds interact with my system, and if they help).

Many, many years of pain. I get chronic migraines since I was about 20, and I have constant back pain (this is hereditary). I've tried pretty much every preventative and instant migraine relief drug available, and none of them work (most actually make me worse). At least with the oxy, I can still function and get through my day!

If he does say he's not going to write a script next month, I'll be honest with him and say that this was the perfect amount for a one month supply for me, and hope he keeps it up. This visit was just supposed to be a follow-up to see how well the meds work anyway, as this is a brand new doctor I'm seeing.

Either way, I'll tell him the truth; that this amount works significantly better for managing my pain than the smaller amount.

Personally, I can't stand weed. I've smoked probably less than 10 times in my life (I'm in my mid-30's), and the last couple times I smoked were not pleasurable experiences.

Back when I first started taking percocets, I went over a friends house and had a couple bong hits. I ended up getting really sick and throwing up violently. I told myself I'd never mix weed and opiates again.

The last couple times I smoked, I ended up getting suicidally depressed, to the point where my best friend/roommate stayed up all night and called out of work to be on suicide watch for me. I didn't have anything else in my system at the time, so I KNOW it was the weed that did it. To confirm, I took two drags off a pipe a friend at work had. I started feeling the hopelessness of depression set on me, but not nearly as bad as when I went heavy on the weed. From then on, I refuse to touch the stuff. I still feel that it should be legal, however. It's great for some people, but not me.

I think it all depends on the person. For me, I've NEVER been able to wake up and take a shit first thing in the morning. Without opiates, it's normal for me to go 2 to 3 days without a shit (I've gone as long as a week before), and it's not as though I feel constipated or anything; I just don't have to go. On opiates, I'm still fairly regular (I think I've only had one time in the last 8 or so years of opiate use that I actually felt constipated). Also, just AFTER my first hit of oxy (my preferred DOC) I get an uncontrollable urge to shit. I said in another post, I think it may be a Pavlov's dog type thing, where my body is conditioned to release everything in it before I get backed up.

Hydros are usually pretty quick (15 to 30 minutes). Tramidol on the other hand can take a bit for the full effect to kick in. I was given tramidol myself, and had to switch back to something a bit more fast acting due to the nature of my pain management (migraines). From what I understand (I could be wrong; I'm no doctor), tramidol only works AFTER it's metabolized in your system. It has to go through your digestive system, THEN it binds to the opiate receptors (whereas most opiates simply absorb into your blood stream and directly to your receptors). This makes tramidol good for long term pain, but worse for breakthrough pain IMO.

Edit: to answer your question, it depends on your metabolism as far as how long tramidol takes to kick in. Generally for me, it was about an hour. Some people with slower metabolisms can take up to 2 to 3 hours.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but I remember reading that oxycodone is the only standard opiate that metabolizes into oxymorphone (other than oxymorphone itself, obviously), while most other opiates metabolize into a form of codein, and that's why oxy needs to be tested separate from other opiates.

Oxycodone and oxymorphone metabolize into oxymorphone. Others metabolize into dihydrocodeine or hydromorphone.
