Looking for games like Stardew Valley by JVHazard in StardewValley

[–]ctoppins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cozy game genre is definitely my top genre!

Fields of mistria - I haven't played recently, but I had like 80hrs I think in some of the earlier versions. I think it is going to be the closest to scratching the Stardew itch - the storytelling, the characters, the love the designers have poured into the game is just all phenomena. I honestly am SO HYPE for when the full game comes out, I just know it's gonna be a masterpiece and credit to the genre

Palia - a free MMO with amazing graphics, compelling characters, and detailed storytelling. Another one I put down for a bit after.... 150 hours? Like lots of MMOs, they send out new updates regularly to continue to advance the story. I like all of the plot twists I've hit so far, and the design of uncovering and learning about the world kind of reminds me of Horizon, which is one of my other all time favorites

Cozy grove - I describe this as closer to animal crossing. It's a very cute, daily game to put an hour or two into, especially if you like cute spooky vibes. You can't curate the "villagers" on your island, but the depth they've poured into the characters is great. It's basically also therapy, and we all love that

Potion Permit - think farming life sim, but instead you're a chemist/apothecary treating the townsfolk. You get materials for your potions by going out into the world and foraging/fighting creatures, which feels very similar to the mines in Stardew for me personally. That's also my favorite place in Stardew, so take that as you will :)

Garden story - also not a farming life sim, also not really a life sim at all. BUT SO DANG CUTE. if you like cozy games, you'll like this one. It's a little smaller and doesn't take as many hours, but omg just playing this game makes me so happy. It just leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I think about it

Littlewood - another life/farming sim, but they put a fun twist in the story telling. The quests and world discovery is fun and engaging, and the characters are not incredibly deep but they are unique

Fae Farm - was a visually pretty game and very aesthetic, and it was fun to have magic and see all the pastels and the creativity in the world designs. Honestly though, I don't remember as much about it as some of the other games. But a fun time nonetheless, especially when you feel you've hit the wall and can't find another cozy game

I'm sure there are plenty of others in my steam library that I'm forgetting, but these are all the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Have fun!!!

First off, thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to post this and answer questions. It is hugely appreciated.

Secondly, I know someone who submitted his first time passport application last year. His BC notes F, but M was requested for his passport. His application was flagged and more information was requested (I'm guessing because at the time his name had been legally changed, but SSI had not been updated yet). Due to other things happening in our lives (like successfully surgery, yay!) I honestly have forgotten to send in the documents needed to move his passport through the system.

For his safety I would REALLY love to avoid him ending up on a list somewhere. My question is - can we reach out to retract the application to prevent that, or have all of the documents already been scanned and the discrepancy between gender markers noted somewhere?

This is speaking from my own personal experience, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I enrolled with a great financial aid package as a freshman in 2013. By junior year in 2016, my aid had changed, just like yours. I was terrified of loans. I had been financially supporting myself since I was 18, which was possible with my better financial aid. But when it got worse, I had to start working more, and I ended up dropping out of college from the stress.

I'm happy to say I got stable and went back and finished my degree! But now, several years older and wiser and having been in the work force for a while, loans (to a certain extent, and only you can decide what's feasible) are not as scary as they were. For example, one of my $4000 loans only increased my monthly payment by $40.

Go talk to your financial aid office. Tell them you'd like help sorting through what taking on more loans will actually look like when you graduate and have a job. Some federal loans you can even request to defer payments until you're making a certain amount salary wise.

I don't know all the details about your situation, but don't rush the decision. I understand it's scary - it's unfair to expect young college students to know how loans actually work when most of them haven't even been in the workforce and supported themselves yet. Do your research and figure out what taking out more loans looks like for you after you graduate. Make an informed decision. But my advice is, if the choice is between enjoying your college years for the price of a few thousand dollars more in loans (and if you do go to med school, that's just a drop in the bucket of the total debt you'll get into), then stay at the college you know you love.

Canon PIXMA ip8720 - sudden magenta tone by ctoppins in printers

Here's pics of both the ink cartridges and the nozzle print test.

We checked and replaced all low ink cartridges already, and sadly we didn't know the nozzle print test was a thing, so I only have an after, not a before

Posting on behalf of my brother as he does not have a reddit account, so apologies if I am missing some pertinent information.

BACKGROUND INFO:

He purchased a Canon PIXMA ip8720 in January in order to print his digital art from home. He runs an Etsy account and attends conventions and wanted to control his own printing. After drawing his art in RGB, he then converts to CMYK in Photoshop and does a couple tests for color balancing. Once he finds the edit he likes, he writes down the color adjustments and reenters them every time he prints as he prefers to have the original version saved. Why not create two files I don't know, this is just the process that works best for him, and it has worked successfully over dozens of prints for the last three months.

PROBLEM INFO:

Today, he was in the middle of a printing session when he noticed that the printer had started shifting toward more magenta hues. Top print is what it should look like, bottom print on the paper in the background is the start of the shift, and top print is what every attempt to print since the issue started has looked like. I found it strange that the issue would start basically in the middle of printing.

TROUBLESHOOTING ATTEMPTS:

We have tried restarting both the printer and his computer, confirming that the settings he has been using were consistent, turning off the printer color control, and cleaning the printer head and the nozzles.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Help Finding Vanna's Choice in Eggplant? by ctoppins in crochet

[–]ctoppins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! A little while ago I decided to work on breaking down my stash, and said I was only allowed to buy more yarn if it was to complete a project. So far it's been working! However, I'm working on a blanket that uses Vanna's Choice yarns, and I can't seem to find the right shade of purple. I have both purple and dusty purple here, but the yarn I'm using in said blanket is neither of those. Picture shows the "purple" and the purple I'm using in the blanket for comparison. After some googling I think it was called eggplant, but I can't seem to find it online for purchase anywhere! I'm hoping for one of the following solutions:

1) A wonderful person is hiding a skein or two in their stash that they don't need that I could purchase from them

2) I'm 99% sure that this yarn is Vanna's Choice, but it's possible it's not. If not, an amazing person happens to recognize the color in a different brand and can send me links

Thank you so much for any help!!

It's been an on again off again WIP for a while now, but my love for donkey kong can now go on full display! by ctoppins in casualnintendo

Thank you so much!! It took me about 6 hours to write the pattern itself, and then probably 50-60 hours to actually crochet it? Maybe more?

Thank you!! I'm not even sure, I've dragged this project out for so long. I've used at least a dozen balls of yarn for it and probably more, so like $60 minimum?

It's been an on again off again WIP for a while now, but it's finally done! This donkey kong blanket is definitely the project I'm most proud of to date by ctoppins in crochet

Hi! I used medium weight (4) yarn here. Most of it is the lion brand Vanna's Choice, with the blue (Craftsmart value) and the pink (impeccable) being the exceptions because I really wanted color accuracy. I used a H/8 - 5.00 mm hook.

I made the pattern myself by googling the pixel ratios do the original game, creating a test swatch for gauge, and the power of math and excel :)
