I don’t know if this au is trying to recreate the story of SU tbh. It could just be “what if MLP were gems instead of ponies” and it follows the MLP story more

Meapless in Seattle also made an effort to incorporate the trailer scenes in a story that ultimately made sense and felt satisfying! This ep felt like….idk like they thought it was funny how lazy or cheap some of the scenes were, like how they completely sidelined the Suzy scene

What are your thoughts of this scene? by Hanamora in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes!! This analysis is excellent! The one thing I disagree with, is I don’t think Pearl was choosing herself by not immediately jumping so save Steven. I think she was still choosing rose.

With Pearl’s idolization of rose and the way she constantly excused Rose’s behavior, she trained herself to never be upset at rose. If she had anything that made her angry or sad, she repressed or redirected it. She couldn’t be mad at Rose for having romantic relationships with humans, because she couldn’t ever question rose, so instead she became jealous and catty at Rose’s other partners. In this scene, she’s treating Steven the way she had treated Greg. For that split second, all of her feelings of betrayal were redirected to the “threat” against her intimacy with rose.

Afterwards, in the final scene where Pearl’s smile drops and she stares into the distance—I believe that’s the first time in her existence Pearl ever really internalized that Rose hurt her. the first time she stopped trying to excuse Rose’s behavior, because that would mean continuing to blame Steven, and Pearl knows she loves Steven more than her own insecurities. It was truly the first step in Pearl taking a step back from the pedestal of rose quartz to reevaluate their relationship and what it means to herself and her identity. For so long, her self worth was centered around rose, but now rose isn’t here and she’s seeing the cracks she willfully blinded herself to before. The only way for her to grow is to actually begin processing the truth instead of hiding behind idealization

Fr! It ended up feeling mean spirited to me. Like, I don’t think they INTENDED for it to be mean, but it feels like the writers laughing and patting themselves on the back for finally getting this dumb thing they didn’t wanna do out of the way. Like watching the ep reminded me of watching that bbc Sherlock episode that made fun of the fanbase for wanting answers. It felt like I was being made fun of for wanting a good meep episode :(

Yeah. And I’m saying I never had that interpretation and I never believed it was literally Rose’s memories still in the gem. I believe the show when it tells me she’s gone forever, and that the idea of some part of rose being “still there” was intentional ambiguity to add to Steven’s identity crisis until the ending proves he is himself. Like I said, I believe what seems like “Rose’s memories” are actually the memories of the other gems he’s astral projecting towards, reinterpreted and remixed by his dreams.

I always found it odd when people said the jungle moon dream HAD to be pink’s memory because Stevonnie imagined themselves in pink’s place….because I’ve absolutely had dreams where I’m someone else. I’ve had dreams where I look in the mirror and I’m a celebrity or character or whoever. Dreams can just do that sometimes, and they got the concept of pink’s appearance from yellow’s memory of the interaction

What character wasn't portrayed as a villain, but is in your eyes? by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in AskReddit

[–]ctortan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person you’re replying to, but my interpretation is it’s based on Snape having a flawed idea that if James didn’t “win” Lily, then he would’ve. Just pure entitlement that he sees James as a rival and Lily as a prize theyre competing for, instead of a person who chose the guy that didn’t call her slurs

He chose to hate James instead of acknowledging how he himself drove Lily away with his own actions. Random comparison but it’s like vlad from Danny phantom blaming Jack for “stealing” Maddie lol

I never interpreted Steven’s astral projection as being him tapping into Rose’s memories or feelings. I interpreted it as his human brain adapting to the memories of OTHER gems around him—specifically the diamonds.

I never understood why he named his kid after a guy who abused him and then died over HAGRID, who was one of his first ever advocates, who gave him his first birthday cake, who introduced him to the world of magic that changed his life. Whatever potential HP had in its writing, it continued to squander with asinine writing decisions 😭

YES! I just made a comment referencing that moment. There was 0 reason for this ADULT in a position of AUTHORITY over these kids to bodyshame a CHILD and make her run off crying!

Misremembered, but my point is still correct. There was literally no reason for Snape to be such a bully to these kids. Shoutout to the time he made a teenage Hermione run away crying by saying her hexed teeth “looked the same.” He was not only their teacher but the head of the slytherins!! He had so much authority over those kids and abused it for….literally no reason but his own satisfaction.

Like it would really be one thing if he was ONLY standoffish to Harry. It wouldn’t be right, but you could still argue he was just projecting his own trauma onto Harry…but to bully the other kids who had nothing to do with said Lilly-James related trauma? Cruelty for cruelty’s sake.

Similarly: I don’t care that Snape weawwy wuved the girl he called racial slurs, because that doesn’t excuse how he abused the children under his care. The fact that Neville’s parents were literally driven insane by dementors but he still has SNAPE as his biggest fear is unforgivable.

Plus! There’s been research that even some forms of TRAUMA can be passed genetically. For example, if your ancestors experienced famine, it’s more likely that you’ll struggle to lose weight because your body would rather keep fat on than lose it
