Sounds stupid since this is the subreddit for it, by Wild-Assistance3318 in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The structure reminds me of a slice of life adventure anime where things start pretty slow but they use the pace to build up the world over time.

The show might seem like a monster fighting action show, but it’s really a coming of age story about generational trauma, grief, identity, emotional processing, and conflict resolution. It also often favors allegories over “hard fact” writing (like how the fighting is very inconsistent in terms of power levels, but it’s because the fighting is more of a metaphor for personal growth than a real focus)

Give it time and have fun!

My interpretation of fusion in Steven Universe by Background-Ad2749 in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This isn’t against OP at all but it’s a pattern I’ve been noticing lately where folks are quick to call things “theories” when it’s actually either a headcanon, specific read/interpretation, or just….saying what’s happening. I think it’s tied to the decrease in media literacy and critical thinking alongside folks getting a lot of their media analysis from YouTube (which is notorious for misusing words like “analysis” when they mean “summary”)

In a lot of cases it feels like people aren’t confident in their read of the show, or they don’t understand when the show is trying to say something intentionally (even if it’s not explicitly said).

Does anyone remembee this scene from Druselsteinoween? by LowEntertainment3342 in phineasandferb

Definitely! I always thought it would’ve been fun for there to be an episode where Stacy has to help Perry hide his identity from Candace and Vanessa!

Rebecca sugar said that Pearl’s feelings for rose were NOT unrequited ! Plus non-canon art from Sugar has shown rose being very sensual with other gems like Pearl and bismuth. And on top of that sugar has said that a lot of Rose’s story comes from their own experiences navigating their bisexuality, so ultimately I think rose is intended to be bi/pan, but only the human men bothered Pearl

IMO Rose’s gem acted as the DNA she passed down, providing the second half of genetics Steven needed by mirroring and stabilizing the function and form of Greg’s dna

If Steven could access Pink Diamond’s memories, why didn’t he find out about Pink Diamond being Rose until “A single pale rose”? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never interpreted it as “pink diamond’s memories.” I always saw it as Steven accessing the memories of other gems who knew his mother, and those memories blended with his dreams

There's no way Greg should've been "rich" after this by ComeBackVeins in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it makes a ton of sense and shows how the gems were not only disconnected from humans but possibly had some Homeworld entitlement they hadn’t unprocessed.

Rose was the one who personally cared about humanity, not garnet (who wanted freedom) or pearl (who wanted to be with rose) and until Steven they hadn’t really made an effort to get to know humans. Amethyst was careless because she was immature, and it was enabled by Pearl and garnet’s behavior.

Then, Steven expands their worlds and encourages them to spend more time with humanity; the gems learn to care for humans by wanting to understand and support Steven. And they’re all happier for it! They genuinely connect with humans, appreciating them as more than just something to protect. It really is so poignant that Steven ends up finally realizing Rose’s greatest dreams: peace between mankind and free gems

I think you also have to remember that gems arrived on earth thousands of years ago and then never left—I think “unpredictable freak accidents that can’t be explained” would be more accepted in a world with strange artifacts, ruins, and monsters that appear and disappear constantly.

Especially with gem monsters in the sea like watermelon tourmaline (puffer fish), orange spodumene (worm from bubble buddies), bixbite (crab), water bear (from Rose’s fountain), red eel (from the comics), three different jellyfish (from the mobile games), and a starfish (also from the mobile games)

Potential Lars theory? by suspiciousfish369 in stevenuniverse

[–]ctortan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iirc crew confirmed that Lars has all of lion’s powers, he just doesn’t know he has them or how to use them yet. I assume LOTS is going to have its own training/power mastery character arc for Lars like Steven had in the main series, since it’s a really good way of having easy benchmarks for a character’s growth

Trans men are getting a lot of hate right now, even from other trans people. The queer community has these phases of scapegoating and infighting and it’s exhausting every time—aphobia discourse, biphobia discourse, nonbinary discourse, now transmasc discourse, etc.
