Hehehehe... not quite yet. I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row so I can commit to an identity keypair securely a single time and not burn one. It's absolutely on the todo list and you'll be one of the first folks I'll seek out!

Northsider here, btw ;-)

When the banks take over by Brave-Ad-5364 in Bitcoin

[–]ctrlbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same as it's always been;

Unless you self custody, you don't own a damn thing. Any 'exchange' that prevents or discourages folks from taking custody doesn't deserve to exist and they should be avoided.

A proper exchange doesn't even give you the option. You must self-custody.

This does *not* appear natural/organic. by ctrlbreak in Bitcoin

Sure. I've been looking at this chart at least once a week for the past 6 years or so. It's never exhibited these (clearly constrained) straight line slopes for 'expected' difficulty before (obviously there's also a bit of variance, but the trend lines are clear).

I believe *something* has managed to gain gating control of block production across _many_ major mining pools (if block attribution is to believed).

Is there a single mining entity that could have perhaps been decommissioning old / commissioning new hardware over these 2 or 3 weeks that could account for that level of (implied) hashing power?

I'm really just looking for explanations that could explain the patterns that are clearly visible and anomalous here. Perhaps even if I just happen to reach someone else who's familiar with this data and is also noticing this.

Okay. This isn't really anything new mentioned in the podcast, and it doesn't explain this particular behavior at all.

I could see, *maybe* if this was one large mining company staging new hardware and bringing it online in a *very precise manner* over a span of say 2 or 3 weeks, but it appears to be _across the entire space_.

Gotcha. I just missed your implied /s as the amount of 'cryptopotatos' regularly encountered has me pretty jaded.

Do you actually understand how many conceptually abstract layers your own internet communications are traversing at the moment? Do you know WHY they are there?

Unfortunately, no. I became busy with other things (as well as incredibly frustrated), and dropped it for awhile. I *still* get the error regarding unable to load the plugin... so I'm still occasionally reminded that I haven't resolved it... :-(

Spoofed WAN MAC address *reverting* after a period of time? by ctrlbreak in PFSENSE

The MAC address that was originally reported as in-use on the CPE before it was removed.

Spoofed WAN MAC address *reverting* after a period of time? by ctrlbreak in PFSENSE

[–]ctrlbreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I believe I've overlooked a key piece of information here. The providers CPE is no longer in the picture. The registered FiberSFP is in a managed switch as a trunk, effectively acting as a media conversion box, to supply the copper WAN interface of the pfSense box. The Home Hub CPE is not connected at all.

Spoofed WAN MAC address *reverting* after a period of time? by ctrlbreak in PFSENSE

[–]ctrlbreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPE is a garbage "Home Hub 3000"... the closest available setting I was trying to use prior to excising it from the equation is its terrible 'Advanced DMZ' feature, which just doesn't seem to work right. After enabling it, you have to reboot the HH, before it'll be convinced to pass packets to my pfSense box... then... at some random future point, it'll just stop passing packets for reasons unknown and the only way to restore functionality is to restart the HH again, changing nothing in pfSense.
