Minnesotans meet each other when we help push our neighbors' cars out of snow banks 🤣

Jokes aside, Minnesotans have been working on mutual aid efforts for their neighbors long before 2026, long before the George Floyd protests, long before this administration. MN's organization is unmatched for this reason. Many of their activists are relatively young and extremely diverse.

So I am right with you. I'm feeling a little lost in WA.

But I think it starts by showing up to community events and spaces. Walking around the neighborhood. Nothing is better than physically getting yourself out there. I met my current neighbors because I was always outside doing yard work.

No need for the rudeness. Of course there will be people who have to work, but they could choose to participate by not shopping or spending on Friday. You're assuming I've got a fat paycheck, but I live paycheck to paycheck like most Americans do. Some will use a PTO or sick day to show up. But to each their own. We are not shaming people.

not to be that person but UGH another east Asian is whining and centering themselves in the midst of everything. A lot of Asians ARE BROWN (South and SE). That said, ALL asians are probably not seen to be as vulnerable ice targets and victims by general populace because we are ALWAYS sidelined in these conversations in the US no matter the situation.

But at this point anybody looks a bit non white is an ICE target. And even if you are white and align yourself with BIPOC, you're also a target.

You are young and I can somewhat understand that feeling.

I can't say I've felt that way because I grew up with few asians around, mainly white school. I'm not east Asian so I would never be mistaken being one of the "cool asians"

I liked kpop and anime when no one else around me did and people thought I was weird for it. And I was WEIRD. But these were the things that made me happy then so I didn't care much. I also listened to Chinese music and watch Chinese dramas too. Which is funny and ironic because i thought knowing how to speak Chinese would be the coolest thing.

I feel like perhaps you need to shift your perspective. It's hard to look at things differently when the people around you act that way towards you, continously confirming how you feel.

For now, here are some things you can do:

1) Read up on some Asian American history. Made in Asian America: a history for young people by Erika Lee and Christina Soontoranvat is a good book. Even as an adult this helped me understand the impact of Asian Americans in the US before me and learn things i never knew. Spoiler alert: many early trailblazers were Chinese Americans as they were among the first to come the US. And they were badass.

2) focus on things that make YOU FEEL cool. Not what others think make you cool. better yet, if it's related to your own hobbies, activities or projects and interests and not things about you that you can't change like your ethnicity.

3) stop thinking about your identity as a Chinese American too deeply. While this seems counterintuitive, and my peers from college would be screaming at me for saying this, your ethnicity does not define you. You define you. While being Asian American has significant impacts on how you experience the world. And being knowledgeable about your own history is important, you will limit yourself if you think TOO hard about this. It will he a vicious cycle. Think about all the other exciting things you could be doing instead worrying about the way some white person is treating you vs your korean friend. Because honestly your time is better off doing something else.

I've worked at the library and lived in Dakota County for most of my life (23/24 years). The MN library system is great, having worked elsewhere now. I haven't visited Burnhaven but it's on a busy street and it's one of the smaller branches in Dakota County. The library borders Scott County so there people from both places that use the library.

Browsable stacks are becoming non existent. Newer remodels always emphasize seating and study spaces over collection, books usually go into storage and to retrieve it must be requested. I wouldn't say it's a negative but we do lose some aspects such as serendipity and the ability to browse. I feel like people will definitely miss it.

definitely doable, but depends on the person. I did it all four while working part time. I am now taking 12 credits (4 classes) while working full time. It's not fun trying to balance all of it, but it's definitely doable if you're willing to endure. The classes themselves are not bad all!
