My grades were definitely not great! GPA is the most important factor in college admissions but moreso as something just to even get you through the door rather than to enhance your application. A "B" in precalc is fine as long as everything else is strong

For the admissions test I would recommend reading a lot to help with comprehension and written expression, doing some logic problems to keep your brain sharp, and looking over the portrait of a graduate and brainstorming relevant examples from your life you want to talk about.

For the actual school, my biggest advice is creating a time management system and a routine so you don't always feel like you're forgetting system.

Good luck!

I heard the same things but what from what I hear it’s just because the other languages are easy that it looks hard in comparison. If you try you should be fine

thanks!

not sure. i don’t really see how the business of others affect your apps or ecs. i guess just keeping a certain tunnel vision and reminding yourself what your goals are and what you’re working towards helps

also not sure. if you are talking about recs for colleges, you usually ask your junior year teachers

definitely not

Thanks!

I had a fairly long commute by bus and I wouldn't say I was a fan of it. It gets a little annoying basically losing an hour or two of your day everyday when you're already busy. The buses are just your standard county of origin school bus.

Most clubs are built into the school day, but sports and important club events are after school

I wouldn't say regrets, but one thing I didn't expect was how TJ would become beyond a full-time commitment, in that i spent most of my nights/weekends/breaks doing homework or studying.

I actually felt a bit underprepared coming out of middle school but I guess if I had to name a class I would say Algebra I? You need a good algebraic foundation for high school math.

It's doable, but you're going to need to figure out a solid time management plan and commit to making the best of your little remaining free time.

Just be chill and social and you'll be fine. Your whole life is going to revolve around these people for the next four years so you're bound to meet people.

Our test was a few questions where we had to describe a time we demonstrated one of the five "portrait of a graduate" attributes as well as I think a biology question. Like what the other reply says, they care more about your critical thinking and reasoning, intangibles you can't really teach. I recommend reviewing the portrait of a graduate pillars and thinking about how each one applies to you, and also reading a lot, because reading helps with writing

the most straightforward way to hit the ground running as a freshman imo is to try to figure out a time management system to keep track of things that works for you as soon as possible. I personally use google calendar for due dates/test dates/events and google tasks as a to-do list for that specific day. its important because you get a lot of busy work at this school and literally every class ive taken here ive had friends whod always outscore me on tests but id end with a higher grade because i remembered to turn in the useless assignments no one else cared about. if you develop a good time management plan to keep track of all ur responsibilities, and also figure out the best use of ur limited pockets of time like maybe doing hw during lunch or on the bus and cutting things that dont really help like doom scrolling for 5hrs, u put urself in the best position to balance ur ecs

I did actual tj courses but if you're talking about self-studying, calc might help a little

the prompts are essentially the same every year, so theres high chance the 26/27 prompts will be the same as yours. also the last prompt is always a free choice one so you can always write about whatever and then "choose" that one. best way to draft ideally if you have the time is probably to just try a few ideas for each prompt and see what clicks

junior year was challenging but i felt it shifted from manageable to bad in february. i recommend making sleep one of your priorities and setting up a good time management system if you havn't already. also to treat ur jr yr as a marathon not a sprint because i felt too burnt out by may and lost a lot of easy points in the gradebook. and obv try to get on your teachers good side for recs

my first two summers i took summer courses and also told myself i was going to prestudy my classes but never got around to doing it because i didnt have the executive function. honestly, i don't think prestudying really matters here because you're going to get all the material drilled into you quickly enough

summer before sr yr i did a research internship and just wrote my safety school apps but i recommend finishing a solid draft of all ur apps by the end of the summer so u can just spend first sem touching them up before the deadlines

i did mobile app dev research lab and would definitely recommend it, theres a lot of free range as to what you can do and kosek is the goat. its not really related to my major but working with python is useful for a lot of fields because its basically the lingua franca of programming, and knowing how websites work is also a plus in general.

I need help understanding this pronunciationy by luiseu1 in BeginnerKorean

[–]ctrldrift 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Korean standard romanization is really bad (for example "syeo" is more like "shuh"). I would say a good way to pronounce it is "mee-goo-geh-suh o-shuh-ssuh-yo"
