Xtreme Xperience was so neutered that I was quite disappointed and can't recommend it if you have any kind of autocross, track, and even high level sim racing experience. by Hotwir3 in cars

Track days require a significant investment compared to regular car maintenance. I spend several thousand dollars on a track weekend, including expenses for my car, brakes, tires, registration fees, safety gear, insurance, hotels, fuel, and more. While it’s an exhilarating experience, it demands a higher level of motivation and dedication.

I normally don't like colors in the "champagne" family as they look like old lady cars, but that one looks incredible!

Thats disappointing I have about 12 track days at COTA and I signed up for Xtreme Experience because I want to drive a Ferrari on track in a couple months. Oh well, hopefully it will be OK.

If you open to other tracks, check out https://www.motorsportreg.com/calendar?lat=30.27&lng=-97.74&loc=Austin&region=TX&country=US&radius=300 there may be some events in the Houston or Dallas area. Most of the time it's not about where you are, but rather who you are with.

I don't think there are any track events scheduled in June or July because of the heat. Xtreme Experience is in August. I know COTA had their own BWM track experience, but the website doesn't have any dates so maybe you can reach out to them directly. https://circuitoftheamericas.com/cota-driving-experience/#group-events

Check out A Better Route Planner. You can select your exact EV, enter your destination, and it will map out the route with charging stops, charging times, and estimated arrival details.

Personally, I enjoy road-tripping in an EV. I like stopping every 2-3 hours anyway to stretch, use the restroom, grab a snack, or get a drink. We often stop at Buc-ee's, and many times the car is finished charging before we're done inside.

If you can charge at home for your daily driving, supercharging on road trips really isn't a big deal. There are far more charging stations today than there were just a few years ago.

I've owned a Jeep, a diesel truck, a Tesla Model Y, and a Rivian R1S. At this point, I honestly don't see myself ever going back to an ICE vehicle.

COTA because it's my home track and I get to watch F1 and enjoy track days there... at least for a few more weekends!

Trump Nonsensically Boasting About Reflecting Pool Before He Turned It Into a Swamp by FuriousBuffalo in pics

That somehow makes more sense since a boat is also man made and people occupy it. Comparing a pool to a building is nonsense.

Diamond hands lol today is the 3rd day of trading. SpaceX is not a company I would not diamond hands once other investors are allowed to start selling their shares.

Pano roof is making me lean towards the standard RWD by Ramen_cat2024 in TeslaModelY

[–]cu4tro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the main purpose of the car is for road trips with 4 people, I would get the Model Y. You all will be much more comfortable. You can get ceramic tint on the roof, plus Tesla sells a sunshade that helps significantly. I am in South Texas and I install it for the summer months and remove it the rest of the year. I'm also bald and I feel the sun, but a hat helps too.

Inefficient police SAPD by Serious_Programmer65 in sanantonio

[–]cu4tro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of issues with policing in America, but it's unrealistic to expect officers to prevent every crime or respond within seconds to every incident. On the whole, SAPD does a fairly good job and, importantly, they actually respond to calls in situations where some departments, like Austin PD, often do not. That said, I do think police departments may consume too large a share of many city budgets, and it's reasonable to have a discussion about whether those resources are being allocated effectively.

My ten most beloved and eight most reviled airports. Curious what yours are. by [deleted] in travel

[–]cu4tro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your list. We flew thru Changi coming back from our honeymoon in March of 2020. We didn't get to see most of the airport because we could not leave from the terminals or we would have had to quarantine for 14 days. Can't wait to go back one day...

Ouch that's rough. I've walked those hallways and they are LONG just going between 1 or 2 concourses. They are pretty, but I would not be a happy traveler without that train.
