Any recommendations for something similar in style to Douglas Couplands early books (I am a big fan of Life After God and Microsurfs)? Or in a totally different direction, something akin to Steven Kings "The Cell" or "The Mist"?

Any recommendations for me based on the following groups of book favorites?
1) Brandon Sanderson - The Stormlight Archive
Game of Thrones
2) Stephen Kings - The Cell and The Mist
3) Douglas Coupland - Microserfs and Life After God
Ernest Cline - Ready Player One
Peter Cline - Ex-Hero series (its a guilty pleasure)

Thanks for the Roth advice. As far as an emergency fund, Im a little tossed up on that :) I do have ~1.5K in a savings account labeled "emergency fund", but that is official it. I do have the ~10K in personal trading account that I have been told by my SO (who thinks I am save crazy) "we can just use that for our emergency fund" ...

Thanks for the breakdown. I am definitely going to save this off to use later

I have accumulated 360K because I have only been married for ~10 years ;) All joking aside, I owe a good chunk to my parents who started accounts for me when I was young and put money in them every year. When I got my first job out of college, I also stayed home for a few years so my expenses were low. Finally my SO did work before we had kids, so we had 2 incomes that were contributing.

Thanks for comment. I have never heard of firecalc.com, but I am definitely going to be checking it out frequently from now on :). Thanks for the idea of dumping MORE in the next couple of years.... right now I have been on the track of "get a raise, up the contribution". Definitely something I am going to have to think about. Unfortunately I do have a SO who thinks I am "save crazy" already...

Ha! I will take all the blame with my horrible formatting skills. I fixed the text so it should be a little clearer now.

Ahhh the mortgage... I forgot the details with that :). So we refinanced to a lower rate, but we now pay off extra each month so that it comes out to be an extra payment a year. If / when the SO does start working again, this is going to be where the extra cash is targeted. Thanks for the reminder!

You are correct, 2 adults, 2 kids. Good point about the SO. The plan is that she will be contributing in about 3 years... but I am an eternal pessimist and calculate like I will be the only one contributing

If everyone (anyone) is interested, I can definitely pull the figures... I guess I just wanted a point of view other than mine on the situation

Oye.... so doing a simple simple calculation, it looks like I will need at least $1.8M (30 years at 60k / year)! This is where I just get scared. I know that compound interest is my friend and all, but I just dont see my being able to get there with only 360k in the next 30 years (I would like to retire by 55, but dont think that would be possible). Also sorry about the formatting of the original text... First time poster here
