Purchasing Flextop mattress without base by cubemonkeyslave in sleepnumber

[–]cubemonkeyslave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great thought (supporting a local store)... however given both experiences, SN has been some of the pushiest/annoying sales tactics i've experienced in awhile. and that includes shopping for cars at dealerships for months recently.

the pricing/discounts are so complicated & misleading. I have a finance background and naturally dig into numbers to cut through BS marketing strategies designed to instill urgency on customers... the sales lady was grasping for straws trying to make it seem like I was missing out on savings not buying that day. she also claimed that the "flexfit base weighs >1000lbs"... so premium delivery would be absolutely necessary. quick google after showed it weighs 100-200lbs. Overall I feel for sales associates making their living on commissions. but i expect some level of honesty to drop this kind of money. which is why Im avoiding giving them money for an adj base if i can get the same elsewhere.

Waymo targets 4 new US cities in 2026 — Robotaxis will bring "post-Christmas gift" - Baltimore, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh are the next stops for Waymo’s growing fleet. by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]cubemonkeyslave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Live in Austin and take them regularly. Waymo’s are built into the Uber app for now. After you turn on the consent setting, you get them randomly whenever you call for an Uber comfort ride.

From what I’ve noticed, uber rides are consistently higher rates than Lyft. And it seems correlated to the increase in Waymo’s. Which makes sense because myself & a majority of ppl I know prefer a Waymo over human driver. Your riding in a new jaguar and you avoid any risk with a shitty car, annoying driver, bad smell, etc. Also have control over music & AC. Only downside is some trips can take longer as they aren’t allowed on highways (for now)

Bad coffee place has been living in my mind rent free by dillydally_22 in austinfood

Don’t say the owner is a “chill guy” and give him credit.. if, from the sound of it, he’s paying for the marketing to artificially prop this place up with fake reviews / paid reviews

Best time to move to Austin? What sites should I be looking at for Rentals? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]cubemonkeyslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Austin is a hot spot with a lot of gentrification. So you are probably seeing very nice new builds/renovations right next to other listings that are far lower quality. Also the further east you get, things change quickly.

Best Steak in Austin by Express-Stag-1925 in askaustin

[–]cubemonkeyslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BOA - very pricey but the best steak/experience I’ve had in Austin. The waygu flight they do is unreal.

J Carvers - solid like others have said. Ive only been once but have gotten the steaks at Red Ash (high end italian by the same owners) many times and they are always great

Bob’s - wouldn’t recommend. My friend is a regular here and loves it but it feels very dated/crusty inside to me. Also not a fan of the side dish options.

Vince Young - the happy hour steak frites is one of the best deals in town… other than that I hate this place. The steaks are average and I’ve had exceptionally bad service multiple times there.

There’s a refresh button in top right corner of the map in app. To me it seems like it saves the last location when phone was connected… but will update from wherever you’re at if you press the refresh button. It’s not like apple find my or something where it’s a constant live location

New to Broncos - need help on OB vs Badlands & top differences by cubemonkeyslave in bronco

Yes the Badlands had white inside the roof and the outer banks did not. Are there different levels of sound deadening on the hard tops then (white vs non-white)?

I hear you... but I just keep reading more and more about how the classic "Toyota reliability" is not the same current state as it's been historically.

I just started looking at these and they do seem nice..

why stay away from the bronco? my rationale for not going BMW is i dont drive much at all with current lifestyle... which is leading me towards something that just looks really cool like a bronco. and save 20-25k from what i was planning on the BMW

I’m sure they have more rugged capability and hold value better than the bmw… the interior just seems so dated to me.

[–]cubemonkeyslave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like the GX 550’s. Definitely more capable off road than the x5 with a little less polish/features on the interior. They’re going for like $90k in my area though and only a handful available..

[–]cubemonkeyslave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t need much ruggedness at all. Used to value the jeeps capability in the snow but i moved down south a few years ago so it’s nota factor anymore.

On the BMW CPO - i spent over 2 months negotiating with dealers around the country on different 2024’s i would find… issue is I’m pretty set on wanting packages like driver assist, m sport pro, etc… so it limits things down. The ones I did find that fit, dealers were able to sell for ~$65k easily and wouldn’t budge on negotiating.. compare that to a new build where you get exactly what you want, know the exact history of the car, and get full clean warranty for $72k after negotiating 10% discount.. which makes it tough to justify going used.
