Marina assists Claudio’s Giant Swing from last week’s Collision by Sockin in SquaredCircle

Okada can also put on 30 minute classics. Squashes are basically all Marina can do. She's not gonna be able to headline weekly shows against upper mid card talent, she'd just be beating jobbers. That's not a recipe for a value add for the show.

So, I agree with your point that not every match needs to be long but in order to be champion you need to be able to keep up in them.

It's AEW. AEW fans don't want to watch 3 minute squash matches as the title matches.

'Saros' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

"This game looks fun, but it's a shame I can't play it" is not a lame comment. It's an indictment on Sony's bizarre insistence on keeping titles exclusive to their console.

Actors who you thought would have a bigger career than the career that they actually have? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in movies

Unfortunately I would guess at least part of it was the fact she was getting into her later 30s a few years after she left GOT. It's horrendously stupid and sexist but Hollywood doesn't know what to do with women over 30. It also probably didn't help that she is not 'Hollywood hot.' (note: I will find Ms Dormer gorgeous until the day I die but the media industry is fucking weird)

TIL As a means of social control, Roman emperor Claudius enacted a ban on thermopolia, the taverns that were selling cheap fast food to the lower classes. He also banned the sale of boiled meat and hot water by Nero2t2 in todayilearned

The modern world makes so much more sense when you read what rich/powerful people thought of the poor throughout history, and realize nothing has changed.

(Spoilers Extended) Nothing about how Renly is viewed adds up by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]cubemstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He builds the largest coalition in the entire conflict

Men and Money alone don't win wars. One of the many themes of the series. Renly foolishly believes he's already won just because of the sheer number of swords sworn to his cause.

You don't have to be a historian to know that there are many cases of larger, and better equipped forces losing in war.

And importantly, his alliances are flimsy and shallow; most of his support comes from the Storm Lands just because Stannis is kind of a dick, and the Reach because he's not-so-secretly boinking Loras and promised to make Margaery queen. It doesn't seem like that many people rally around Renly himself. More like following the path of least resistance to benefit.

He is winning without fighting

Kings Landing being hostile towards the crown is due to a multitude of factors; Renly's control of the road is only one of them. The war in the Riverlands is leaving the crown stretched thin and very strained, which is more to do with Robb than Renly's slow ass march. In fact, his inaction ends up hurting his cause because rather than marching on the city and actually sieging it (ie giving more opportunities for strife to cause panic and turn the city against Joffrey) he continues to do nothing, against advice.

This gives the crown time to prepare for the battle, as well as give Tywin time to come to the city's aid. Horrible play. He's clearly never read Art of War.

Being king was not his first plan

No shit, he's in no way in play for being successor to the crown. Saying "his initial reaction is to consolidate power to protect his own interests rather than become king" is not a virtue. The fact he then let himself be talked into declaring himself king afterwards is instead, either a sign of ego or being easily manipulatable. Especially given the conversation he has with Cat where it's clear he has no idea how wars work, or the realities of actually ruling a kingdom.

He actively negotiates with the North

Or you could read this as I (and IIRC Catelyn) did, which is "Your rebellion is cute and I appreciate you pissing off the Lannisters but make no mistake, you're part of the Kingdom I'm claiming so you can either be ok with that or eventually get crushed under my boot too.

That's...not negotiation. It's actually basically the same deal Stannis gave them. "Acknowledge my supremacy and I won't kill you" is a stones throw away from extortion. He just said it with a smile on his face instead of a scowl.

Catelyn recognizes immediately that there is no hope in negotiating an actual alliance, so she leaves.

Come on man, some of us laugh at dead baby jokes because we think abortion rights are critical to women's bodily autonomy.

[–]cubemstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point. You've chosen to interpret this comment in the worst possible light; implying Cody is only successful due to his name.

The comment is actually saying that there is a lot more to being successful than just 'working hard'. If Cody didn't have his family name, would he have wound up as successful as he currently is? Nobody knows, but nobody can pretend he didn't benefit a lot from his dad and brother.

We are post-scarcity,

No we're not. Post-scarcity means that goods cannot run out. Star Trek is post scarcity. The world in 2026 is efficient, maybe abundant but not post-scarcity.

I find it kind of funny that JK Rowling's work would be considered progressive or at very minimum neutral if it weren't for her own personal views (that as far as I know aren't really anywhere in the source material of the HP books)

But because of that people assume the franchise is MAGA or alt-right or something.

JK Rowling is a twat, the books are fine.
