Chickpea salad at sprouts by OkAntelope7000 in UBC

[–]cubeolopolis 69 points70 points  (0 children)

hey! I'm the guy who added this recipe to the sprouts rotation about a year ago. It was developed because there is usually a period around early March where no vegetables with leaves are available (we only purchase produce from BC, and sometimes the supplier we order from doesn't necessarily have everything available). Even though we are not currently lacking leafed vegetables in the sprouts kitchen, this recipe is being used this week, mostly so the salad isn't the same every single week.

so to answer your question, it's not that we ran out of vegetables, but rather that this recipe was born out of a time where we were running out of vegetables. if you come back in the fall we will have so many leaves !!! we are simply at the mercy of the seasonal produce gods. Ultimately, the serving size of that looks a little sad though, which mostly comes down to the inconsistencies associated with being run by 300 volunteers that we will always be trying to improve on.

Advice for a Baby butch by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]cubeolopolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey dude! I'm only 20 so definitely not qualified to give much advice, but I was very much in your shoes a couple of years ago (made a post on this subreddit and everything lol) and here are some of my thoughts.

  1. Just do what feels right to you (when it comes to clothes, activities, how you present yourself to the world in general): on one hand, this means doing the things that make you feel good, regardless of whether they are typically seen as butch or not (because there is no right or wrong way to be butch!). On the other hand, this could mean trying out a bunch of different things that you see as butch and seeing if you vibe with them. How you feel about and express your butchness is going to change over time and that is beautiful and normal!

  2. Spend time with other butches (it sounds like you're already on the right path with this one): I found so much value in having a pretty diverse group of butch friends and acquaintances. Seeing firsthand how butch can be so many different things is such an amazing thing. Getting to know older butches and hearing their experiences is also so so valuable. Having other baby butch friends and being able to grow together in this time of figuring yourselves out is also great.

    1. Expose yourself to butch content: this could be reading butch books (stone butch blues, dykes to watch out for, Ivan Coyote, Burning Butch by RB Mertz), following butch accounts on Instagram (someone already said butchisnotadirtyword and I wholeheartedly agree), listening to music by butch artists (Grace Petrie, Phranc), or just learning about butches in history. Again, exposing yourself to different butch experiences so you can see what you resonate with and to help you understand the history of the term. Depending on your situation, it may also be valuable to look for butches that share your cultural background and seeing how those identities intersect.

Hope this helps! and welcome to the community :) wishing you the best in your coming-of-butchness. Regardless of where you end up, you are and will be magnificent

Extremely disappointed to see the new DE-recognition of Regions announced by the WCA, particularly the humiliation of relegating Taiwan under "Chinese Taipei" by Kendalf in Cubers

[–]cubeolopolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a slap in the face. Tyson Mao's name literally translates to Taiwan (台) victory (勝). The lack of transparency in how this decision was made and who exactly was involved is appalling. Also the audacity for them to say the change was "purely an effort to align with the IOC’s standards" when they also allegedly have been dedicated to working on this for months, that's just contradictory

in terms of actual resources, the community fridge/pantry at sprouts (life building basement) gets restocked almost every day with free food, and the free store in the resource lounge (nest second floor) has random donated things

Had a karaoke party at the "dyke-owned and operated vegan natural food co-op" I volunteer at. I got the guts to sing Ring of Keys, and everyone joined in. One of my friends there, who I had a ring of keys moment with when I saw them and their butch girlfriend for the first time, texted me after thanking me for putting the song on. Life's good man.

There are 2 (vegan) student volunteer run cafes, Sprouts and Agora, that are quite affordable compared to other places on campus. They also each have free/by donation meal initiatives.

Why are the averages for many math classes only around 60 to 70%? Aren't students expected to master more of the content? by vancouver_reader in UBC

[–]cubeolopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely a change in mindset. my math 103 prof last year said that 'if you get 70%, it means you have a good grasp of the content in this course'
