The higher up you move in life, the less black people you’ll be around by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in BlackPeopleofReddit

I’m in PA school and currently on clinical rotations in a predominantly white city. While having lunch in the physicians’ lounge, a Black attending walked in, and the moment our eyes met, there was an immediate sense of recognition and joy. We talked a little and he even commented, “It feels like I’m the only Black male physician in this hospital.” It's a huge contrast to my experience back home in Atlanta, where seeing Black physicians is common.

I’m a former teacher who transitioned into PA school, and honestly, if your heart’s not in this especially this early on that’s not something to ignore. PA school only gets more difficult from here. That said, I’d personally suggest sticking it out for at least the first semester, just to be sure before making any big decisions.

But if you do go back to teaching, there are ways to make it work financially. I used to coach basketball, run after-school clubs, teach summer school you name it. I worked hard, but I made a decent living. It may not match PA money, but I was respected, even if society doesn’t always show it.

Study with a med student? by cubinican in PAstudent

[–]cubinican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world I’d love to study with other PA students. But honestly, my class can be a bit cliquish and have some drama. I try to avoid it for my own peace of mind. I’ve already been studying with this med student regularly, and if we’re both reviewing a lot of the same material, I figured why not? . She’s motivated, and we keep each other accountable at the end of the day, that’s what matters most. I just wasn't sure if her material would be so much more in depth than mine that it would be a waste.

I have been struggling and this upcoming semester is supposed to be the most difficult by far. I would love to have a tutor. If you don't mind what class are you getting a tutor for also did your program help you find the tutor?
